Okay, so I am just checking out some LB fins on amazon. As you all know, I already have the 9" Squirrel fin with the side runners. I am going to play around with it as a single fin, but I also want to have a more standard thruster setup for it as well. Not only for a little bit more ability to turn, but also because a LOT of times when its super small, my rides are ending in inches of water. I had to step off the board right before the beach almost every time because I didn't want that HUGE 9" fin getting caught in the sand....

So first question is: Anyone use those fins from a company called "Dorsal"? They have dozens of LB fins on Amazon. All in the $15-$20 range... Anyone have one, use one?

I think I am looking for about a 7" center fin.... Is that going to be too small? Or could I even go with a 6" LB fin with the small side fins?

With the side fins im sure you can go as small as you'd like. 20$ fins sound like they are made to smash into the sand.

    Have fun!

Oh and in regards to fin placement for the center fin....as a single, further forward is better for turns, further back is better for nose riding. Generalized rule of thumb.

Got it. Upon amazon reviews, this Dorsal fin company seems to make mostly SUP fins. A lot of the reviews say... Decent fin for the money, I wouldn't use it in a longboard competition, but they do the trick... Im thinking I might go in another direction. It is a little suspect that all their fins are under $20... makes you wonder.

As for the center fin, I am planning to try it with the center fin all the way forward next time I try it with the side fins, and maybe all the way back with the single fin. Reason I say that, is that I would "assume" without the side fins, the board will want to turn a little looser and more often anyway, and with the fin all the way back as a single to encourage locking the tail in for noseriding... I could be wrong, but I will find out I guess.

They're cheap because they are molded plastic. What's that mean? Uncool, stiff. Do they work? Yes. I have a few.

The dorsals I saw at the local shop were really bendy, almost flimsy. They really seemed cheap

I've had a couple sets. They aren't comp fins but seriously, how many of us are comp surfers. If you snap one off on a sandbar, it's no big loss. And they break at the tabs as opposed to ripping out a fin plug.

Got it.. I am just worried about performance. I don't want to slide out of a bottom turn because the things are pulling any torque.
