we get dolphins in the break all the time. they duck under as they swim through following the fish, i'm more scairt of the seals.
Do these dolphin get compensated for their representation of these products? Maybe some tasty chum, or a free trip to Tahiti where they can cavort with Tahitian dolphins. I think not. We need to stand up for our cetacean brothers and sisters. Exploitation, man!
Never worried about dolphins around me but one morning I was out by myself as the sun was rising and a huge bottlenose came flying out of the approaching head high set wave and was headed right for me, I just froze and prayed he would miss me, he disapeared under the water right before impact and never saw him again, never seen one that big before, the speed he was traveling at was serious if he had hit me by accident, it woulda crushed me.
Yup, super elusive. I thought I was going to be train wrecked by about 15 dolphins all synchronized surfing a wave at black while I was paddling out. They got so close, at the last second, I literally bailed and braced for the onslaught and impact but felt nothing but water flowing by me rapidly. It was insane that they got so close and didn't touch me at all. Pretty impressive what they can do.
I was paddling out at the inlet and a big bottlenose was coming in, chasing after something, as I was paddling out the rip. It passed me going in the opposite direction, a few inches from my right side, and it felt like a racehorse just flew by. All muscle and huge. Fast and sleek, it would have annihilated this dog of the surf if it wanted to.

There aren't any dolphins up here. Atleast Iv never seen one or heard of anyone seeing one. Any way I was down in OBX and Iv seen dolphins swimming way outside during the morning check, was no good but ended up paddling out for a late afternoon surf. Now Iv never seen a dolphin while surfing or up close. Iv seen there fins way outside before though. So we're surfing and a group of dolphins swims through the line up back and forth and back and forth. Went right underneath me, so close I had to pull my feet up on the board. I never really realized how big and strong they were. I mean I knew but seeing it in the wild that close was a super cool experience. I definitely give the guys who surf with dolphins on the regular props. I'd be paranoid about hitting one one accident or falling on one and pissing it off. I guess it doesn't happen often and you guys are used to them

Love seeing dolphins in the lineup, or anywhere for that matter. Been out drift fishing before on a day when the water was clear and saw a pod coming. Grabbed my mask and jumped in. They all came right at me, turned, and then in perfect synchronization turned and showed me their bellies, then turned and all did a perfectly sync'ed corkscrew. Then they turned again and took off. Was like watching the Thunderbirds under water. Could have sworn they were waving at me. Prob me just being anthropocentric... Was out on the SUP once and a small pod let me cruise with them. They had a baby and kept a couple big ones in between me and the baby. I didn't try to crowd them but after a short time they let me come up and ride right behind them, so close their flukes were almost touching the nose of my board. We get them all the time down here cruising out right past the breakers. In fact, couple weekends ago some came by and it got the the lil one to paddle out the back with me for the first time. She hopped on my board and I paddled us out. We didn't catch them but it was great for her to take that next step, even if it was Daddy paddling her out. We just hung around and she agreed its not so scary once you've done it. Can't wait for the day she goes out the back with me on her board and we can start catching waves together. Lots of other great experiences with them. I wanna see me some whales!
