those whites are just pups (though still scary).. At that size they still only eat fish. Keep your legs up and you'll be fine

 

Well, my best friend actually had a run in on TV with a few hungry white sharks off the coast of South Africa. He moved from San Diego to Texas about a year before I left to pursue commercial diving. He ended up being on the show Diamond Divers on Spike TV. This is the guy I surfed with almost every day for 10 years... His name is Sam... When he told me that this happened, I didn't believe him, and then I watched the show. Pretty much the worst case scenario... They don't show the whole incident in this clip, but they show enough in this clip... The full episode of show is insane. They only show the one Whitey roll up on him in this clip, but if I remember correctly, there were 3 circling him at one point, as he bear hugged the pipe and slowly equalized the whole way up. Talk about terror. I told him he was one of the stupidest guys I had ever met when he returned... They also got attacked by Pirates and all kinds of sh** in season one of the show... This is the same guy that convinced me to continue surfing Peskys with while there were about 20 5-7 sharks swarming on the inside reefs.

I remember watching that... Whole thing seemed like BS to me.

 

It was real, but after the fact, from what he told me, they filmed a whole bunch of filler and crap. Like they re-filmed him down with the pump again with an ENORMOUS amount of blood and sh**. It really happened, but that is how Hollywood is. Like, the blood that rises up 100 feet to the surface that is still in a pool like that... But he said that it really happened. It wasn't that much blood but he got his hand caught up in it and in came the sharks. I also told sam he "Overacted" a lot in the show. Like when he got into a fist fight and tackled the other guy. I know Sam very well, and the way he was acting wasn't necessarily staged, but he was definitely not in true character... Funny how people get when the camera is rolling. Made for good rating though.

 

Not saying it didn't happen. You know the guy so I believe you... But watch the video and imagine you didn't know him... You'd say it was complete BS

The blood at the surface was when I was thinking it was ridiculous.

 

Yeah, no doubt. Hard to believe, but then I think to myself, South Africa, blood... Yeah... We nicknamed him Bon Jovi, cause in CA, he had long hair and the dude looked JUST like Bon Jovi. Hilarious.
