What's good fellas I need some board advice. I'm currently riding an 8'2" soft-top but I really want to get rid of it and find a nice decent mid-size longboard between 8' - 9'. I was thinking of going with an Epoxy pop-out such as BIC or NSP to get the most bang for my buck. I'm looking at that route or possibly something used (problem with that is I'm nervous to buy a **** stick on accident). What do you guys think I should do? Any input is appreciated.
i agree this seems unlikely. on the off-chance it is, well, theres nothing wrong with a bic or nsp. also kelly did an interview somewhere where he talks about the beginner/int/advanced progression. the right steps with the appropriate board will - sooner or later - result in athletic talent.
You're in Jersey . . . Go to Eastern Lines in BELMAR and get a used board . . . I don't know, for those breaks I always liked something with a little bit of rocker in the nose . . . I agree there is nothing wrong with an NSP, I have surfed way overhead on a 9'2" NSP.
I would say, yeah, there is nothing "wrong" with a NSP, but I am not a fan. Never even tried one until Local Motion in Maui rented me one. I rented it for 2 weeks. After about 2 hours of use, I took it back to the shop and said, thanks a lot ya jive turkey, may I please have a real board now. The hollow, instability of it was ridiculous. I understand that they are bulletproof, so I know why the shops rent the tanks out, but damn it's like you have to give people a disclaimers, like Hey Man, I am a "REAL" surfer, can we please bypass the novelty board you are about to try and pass off to me. If this guys is riding bigger boards, 8+ft, I would get a good ol' fashion fiberglass board of craigslist. Thurster fin setup... Those NSPs may be OK for beginners, but why start bad habits right out of the gate. Might as well learn on a board that ACTS like a real surfboard and has some weight, torque and drive to it... Never tried a BIC, but if its anything like an NSP, that is just a P.O.S. surftech kinda crap ride IMO. Damn bastards at Local Motion. And this entire comment is assume that this is a real post. If not, well done sir.
you wont get much in the ways of performance out of either of these boards, granted you sound new to this so it doesn't matter much. If your going to support a company that only makes pop outs, avoid products made in the cobra factory like the plauge. (surftec, nsp, most other molded epoxy shapes) Bic has a sustainable and environmentally friendly factory in France where most of their boards are made, so do some research, and again don't expect performance
http://southjersey.craigslist.org/spo/4464924796.html Not sure your budget, but this is something in your area that would be well suited for a beginner, and if taken care of properly, could provide years of fun when your skillset becomes more advanced.
zach - take this idea for a spin. (any) beginner starts on a pos then moves well to int status and finally lands at the advanced stage. THEN THIS PERSON GETS THEIR FIRST 'REAL' BOARD. progression-wise combined with athleticism their talent then kicks into high gear….hopefully, the sky is the limit!!!
1) why? (really) 2) my bic sup just blew off da top truck and landed hard on concrete and is dinged but its minimal and fixable. happened whilst racking; almost decapitated me yours truly…. (phew!).
