Yes, but what better time in life to take all your closest friends out of their bubble for a night and FORCE them to let loose. You don't have to buy hookers and drugs down there. But spending 3 hours in TJ just for drinks will provide a lifetime of stories. Just get ONE drink from each place and bounce around. By the end of the night, some Mexican guy will convince you to go into a place that is a "bar" that has "the cheapest drinks in town" and once you get in, the horror that you may endure at first will quickly turn into curiosity, as you all crane your necks to try and figure out exactly what is happening to this donkey.

Just saying, don't count it completely out. Its a 10 minute drive to the border. You can get dropped off and walk right over.

But if you guys are going THE OTHER ROUTE, which is the (PG version of San Diego in one day) Get a tee time for around 8 in the morning at Balboa (I assume based on the desriptions of your friends, if they have marriages and careers, the most likely play golf), enjoy a fun, cheap course with downtown skyline views and crazy elevations. Go up to PB after that and spend the afternoon at the beach and out at the bars, head to La Jolla after that for a nice dinner (Steak House at Azul, best views and food in LJ. You can see Blacks, Scripps and LJ Cove from the dining room), then go out to an expensive club downtown in the gas-lamp. Altitude, or some place up on a roof top with a DJ and a bunch of girls, finish the night on the outdoor couches smoking cigars and drinking scotch.

But like I said, don't count out TJ.... Don't EVER count out TJ. A good night in any neighborhood in San Diego can always end with a late night trip to TJ. 1:30, last call, what next? How about TJ? Just saying. Trust me.

    Good call zach.

I won't count out a late night run down to TJ. I think if I mentioned it now I would scare some of them off. Remember these are my brothers friends not mine. I really only know 3 or 4 of the whole group. Most of them don't surf ...to my knowledge.

As much as I hate the movie the hangover, and even worse referencing it, I may have to pull an Allen, and introduce some chemicals into the situation to make a TJ run more appealing to the timid....

Yankee - you a travel agent ? QuitBeinga*****vacations.com ? I'd book my next trip through you for sure. Seriously that sounds awesome but unfortunately I cannot make it happen for reasons beyond my control ...

Bro you never actually "mention" tj until you are there! Some things are best left unsaid.

If you are camping all the way down the 1, there are plenty of campspots to check. Most will have a site open for a night on last minute. Well i guess thats depending on the time of year, i forgot to pay attention to that on the OP.

Once you get to Santa Barbara check out El Refigio campground. Pretty chill. Right on a nice little LB pointbreak. Probably will be crowded but thats life in so cal.

Yeah, just get on the trolley heading southbound and say that you are going to the best after hours club in San Diego. Wait til it hits the end of the line and they make you get out and say, I guess we are hear. Next thing you know, you are in TJ.

And yeah, I was the best man at my old brother's wedding, so I had to orchestrate the whole evening. Drinks, dinner and all this. His friends are all lawyers and freaking FBI agents. It was a very strange mix and I felt completely out of place, but all in all they had a fun night. My brother made me promise not to take him and his friends to a titty bar or anything, so that sucked. I should have vetoed it, but he thought that his fiance and all the other guys wive's would get pissed about it.

Then when I went to AC on my Bcacehlor party, things were just out of control. We each made over 5K gambling and blew more than half of it at all these roof top parties and dirty strip clubs up there. It was all time. All the guys were trying to be on the hush hush. My wife asked my brother and my friend how the strip clubs were. They both said, what strip clubs? I chimed in, it's okay dudes, she gave me extra cash to make sure I DID go to a strip club.

Just make it fun, but like I said, I regret not ruffling some of their uptight feathers that night. The night ended on a $500 bottle of scotch... But it could have been insane. We were stuck in Northern VA and they weren't trying to go into DC. Lame.

In august, dont surf South SD. Stick to North county and orange.
You can do a ton of Brewery tours in SD. Temecula has a lot of wineries..

The Wavehouse in SD is fun. Anything in the Gaslamp quarter of downtown...
