I root for ks and never for medina...only because the old man rips and from the east...surfs great and is getting up there in age...the dude is just insane...But iam certainly not gonna comment on anyone's style...if I could do better, I'd knock them off...but I suck...just funny how people comment on a pros ability.

Need ks to win an event...

True that. Ridiculous style.... Never seen footage of him doing the big wave thing like Kelly, but still.

true...i feel like i HAVE seen some, but i'm not sure where or when. could be entirely a figment of my own imagination.

mr. weatherly is 100% correct, IMO. which is why i can't stand watching most of the brazzo contingent, but esp. adriano, surf. i don't care so much about the god thing, as long as they keep it mostly to themselves (like the hobgoods, curren, & a few others have done), nor about the poor english...they're non-native speakers & english is a damn hard language to learn. my buddy's wife is brazilian, has been here for the better part of a decade & still slips up sometimes, usu. when she's drunk or worked up. but ****ty style is unforgivable.

Don't care where he is from.

My Critiques are still the same. Anyone on that level should be WAY more fine tuned than he is. He is lucky to have a tour spot, much less win events. There are thousands of kids all over CA and OZ that are just as good if not better than him. They just have to go through the ranks of CA, HI and OZ. It's a LOT harder to beat out the top competitors in the US and OZ than it is to be the biggest thing in Brazil. It is what it is to me.

Don't know the kid personally, just seen too many hundreds of other guys that I think are better surfers. WAY better surfers. But in his defense, I think at least 1/3 of the tour's veterans don't belong there. A few at the top of the competitive level belong, but seriously, the Hobgoods and that whole crew, love the guys, but they have not been at the top of surfing for many years....

They need to start letting the talent in that deserves it. Mick Fanning, Taj Burrow, Medina and all those guys would get smoked at a lot of spots around the world by younger guys that aren't even getting any media attention. They are out surfing huge waves, airs are like pumping for the whole generation. There are just hundreds of guys who are the "total package" and yet we have to walk these guys on the tour? Qualifications need to change. This isn't a golf tournament, where the guy who won in 1974 is always invited back every year. This is supposed to be the top guys on the planet, and let's be clear, there are only a few on the whole tour that are truly on that level. The rest wouldn't even stand out on a good day at trestles.

why why why lol!!!the kid is a phenominan.waves of consequence, theres plenty of videos of him charging pipe, waimai with the other brazzos.he was out during the black Friday swell at pipe where hobgood broke his leg or something.
the kid lands every air he tries, and that's what seperates him from jjf and all the other aerial wizards.for Christ sake the kid does like 3 airs on 1 wave and jjf will do that 1 air on 1 wave and get a 10.
worst interviews lol,the kid barely speaks a word of English, thats what it sounds like when u talk to illegal aliens.
yea he did a backflip,on a 2 ft wave which is pretty phukin impressive.

its cool we all have our pros that we hate.i hate travis logie, glenn hall, and don't recall the other ones.like why are u on tour,u cant post 1 good score in a year of events.i like medina,i like when a foreigner who gets hated on comes to America and surfs American waves better than the local pros who been surfing there longer than gabs was alive

Just for the record Fillipe was the one who claimed at 0:17, licked the cam, and then claimed Gabby's wave for him. But I still think the things they do on a wave(and above it) are absolutely crazy.

Agree with your premise, but not the guys you listed. Taj, Mick and even Medina will beat any of the guys you are talking about anywhere (aside from mental spots ie. Shipsterns)

These duds are on top because they are the best in the world.

Your premise would be sound if he WASN'T winning heats and WAS NOT winning events. But he is.. so kinda shows that he is beating top Americans, Aussies, etc. In fact in years past I feel the reason he wasn't making heats was because he was an outsider, not getting the scores he deserved.

competitive surfing is not about being the best free surfer in the world. Its about scoring the most points in 30 minutes.

Again, I'm not a fan of Medina's. But Kelly has even said that he's the best young surfer out there and the future of surfing along with JJF.

why is everyone bringing up slater,he does not fit in this category.everyone hates the groms.they are young, they rip,and they get paid.i feel bad for seabass.he can really surf and hasn't had 1 good heat in the past 2 years, and they always put him up against jjf.medina has taken down everyone from dane to Kelly to parko and mick.hes just 1 of those kids that can make a crappy wct wave look good

I honestly think Medina will be world champion before Kelly retires. He is emerging and when he does all the haters will be sucking BRAZZZ dikz or wutever the f. Bunch of talentless hacks critiquing a 20yr old kids style from their keyboards. You all will be praying before you enter the water and mimicking his moves in 2 yrs.

So what if he cant speak english. id always laugh when the announcers would ask him to say something in Portuguese . He sounded sharp, intelligent, and thankful/humble, in his own language. Bet you mafukkaz look like idjuts when you go to where the waves are south of the border. JJF couldnt even say any word other than barrel his first year on tour, wtf.. its about surfing not post heat interviews, y`all suck

peace im out you critiquing scheming leeches.

I am saying the guys he is beating no longer represent the best in the US. And I love Taj and Mick and Joel as much as the next guy, but if you think there aren't 100 more progressive, talented Aussies waiting in line behind them? Those three are fine tunes surfers. Very technical. They understand the scoring systems, they surf all over the world and are comfortable in everything, but they are just not on the forefront of surfing to me.

I am saying Medina wouldn't even stand out on a good day at Trestles, that is all I am saying. And yes, half the lineup there would have some sort of sponsorship, albeit on an amateur level. The current group on tour, minus a hand full of guys are NOT the best surfers in the world.

And my premise was always about him understanding scoring, but NOT making it look good. He just doesn't. So, while he is a successful competitive surfer from a numbers aspect, but he isn't doing anything any more radical that any decent spot in HI, CA or OZ. So the kid can pump down the line line a hunchback and then huck 3 air reverses in a row. I am not saying that isn't hard, or technical, but I can tell you that every 14 year old on the west coast with a couple stickers on their board are doing the same things and are making it LOOK way better.

The dude is just not my cup of tea. I think a lot of the ASP guys are only still around because of corporate influence. These older guys are completely branded throughout the industry. Its good for everyone that invests in the ASP, but until they re-evaluate the entry system into the events themselves, it's going to be a bunch of the same guys, doing the same sh** we have been seeing them do for 10-12 years. Get scores, get barrels, do an air every now and then.... But those older guys more progressive moves are ony even displayed, abeit rarely our of necessity and to keep up with the youth movement. I haven't seen waves from Taj, Mick or anybody recently that have just blown my mind.

10 years ago, Taj was my favorite surfer. The things he was doing were insane. It pushed the whole industry to a new level.... Its been a long time, and he has, what one title from 5 years ago.... He is just consistent and boring now.

I've seen him surf live in person before, and he BLEW my mind, but I just don't think he is even in the top 50 any more.

Chill holmes. I don't care about his interviews or any of that. And PRO surfing is just that. A professional sports. There are hundreds of thousands of radio and television sports analysis all over the country, most of which contain thoughts and critiques by individuals who have never even played the sports in which they cover, much less are half way decent at any of them...

That is what we are supposed to do with professional athletes. If you can only comment or have opinions about people in which we are better than, then we might as well all turn our TVs and computers off....

I'm just saying, I understand from your emotion on there that you like the kid. You think he is a great surfer. Word up. Dude is not my cup of tea, and like I said, people have been doing the stuff he is doing for MANY years recently. That's why we need more people LIKE MEDINA on tour, so they can all show you that it can be done in a MUCH BETTER LOOKING way. You let the next 20 young guns into the tour next year, I guarantee that you will forget who Medina is.

Jordy's got the best style if you ask me. And he's also super progressive and creative with his surfing. He's the best in the world if you look at both freesurfing/contest surfing in my opinion.
