Living out in Watertown right now. Mostly skate on my own but have a good crew of surfers out in the surrounding areas. Anybody ever hit the Hingham or Newburyport Pools? It is the flat season and I`m always looking for good heads to skate/surf with, it helps with motivation and progression.

We're celebrating Boston LB's 500th member mark by throwing a huge skate jam! The idea is to get as many of the newer skaters to come out and see what Boston LB does on the regular, therefore we will all be skating some of our favorite and most regular spots all day long. https://www.facebook.com/events/246734395533939/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming
I skate the Newburyport pools, Amesbury park and go to Rye Airfield from time to time. Definitely a good work out and off season killer. Also a good way to roll the ankle before some good swell rolls in. But anyways, go hit one of those spots. Amesbury not so worth it, unless your pretty good at flat ground rather than transitions. Rye will have it all, and there are always some nice dudes to skate with. Just be friendly and engage in a little convo. You will more than likely make a couple buddies that way. I always try to be outspoken and friendly. It definitely makes the session better when everyone is having fun, rather than trying to look cool and measure up to others. We are all here to have fun.
I skate, surf, and drink cheap beer. I live in Rhode Island, but always down to get out of the land of 5ft transitions
Newburyport is my favorite and while it is easy to make friends, I am looking more for rideshare/drinking buddies in my area. Again, have lots of friends to skate with N of Boston and even some S of Boston, but have yet to establish a crew IN the city.
Got to say that as much time as I've spent in the city in recent years I've not seen a notable skate presence but I don't live there. Have you not come across any skate gangs in the 617 from being close by?
Lots of street skaters, but I seem to be the anomaly doing surf style and rockin' my carver. Even when I see people skate pools they have no style, or flow, just back and forth up and down miniramp style moves. I intend to move to PR once I'm done with continuing ed/car lease, I have enjoyed the solitude and empty lineups.. but its time to move and be with my extended family.
Amigo, siempre necesitamos a regresar a nuestro familia. Es la verdad. Bet you would benefit from spending some time with street skaters. Once Ollies and flips are integrated into my surfskating it's game over. Differentiation to da max. Btw, anyone who says you can Ollie on a Carver (and they all will say that) has no pop and explosive length strength. It's all about stylish innovation. No matter what.
My buddy in college was a street skater and showed me what I need to know. But to be honest, kickflips dont interest me, I like to air (without an ollie) and flow. Plus I am an old man and cannot afford rolling my ankle practicing flip tricks, one of the old dog scenarios. Pools and cruising are what I enjoy.
I'm not dead set on flips being the cornerstone of my skating but they're definitely an element I want to bring in next. Are you riding a C7 on a Carver deck? Airs with no Ollie seem odd to me with a Carver. The Ollie will translate to surfing tech value unlike the flips. As for messing yourself up, it shouldn't be an issue when you stay with your comfortable rate of progression, just like surfing. It's not like pool riding is safe in itself either and we are all in the realm of high-risk activity with any sort of challenging surfing and skating.
I do not ollie on my carver, just cruise, and I bought the new CX trucks. I ride a street board for such things as they are quite a bit lighter and feel better under my feet. As far as progression, I guess it comes down to style and in my book there are two schools of thought. Points for technical moves and points for style. I go for style and am more interested in a front side hack then any kind of flip trick. Maybe things will change, but I like turns and working the coping. Yes pools are dangerous, but working hand rails, doing gaps you are much more likely to have a 'put you on your ass injury'. Knock on wood, but I've only bruised some ribs in the pool and lost some skin. Like someone mentioned, I got the bruised rib right before hurricane season two years ago.. hurt so bad to paddle, but after a month or two things eased up. When are we going to skate spicoli?! I've got some time tomorrow afternoon and perhaps the pool in Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon.
Yeh, flat kinda shiddy bowl, but its close to work. I will PM you so we aren’t hoggin the forum with our bro-date.
Son, we could rap for days and still be far behind the Dynamic Brüo (757 & Killa Kiel). This is our break breh. As long as we keep it skate then we stickin to the tread title. But sure, PM away and we will discuss the finer points of EMass pave.
