Well, there had to eventually be (another?) thread about Olympic Surfing...

Everyone in the world watches the Olympics... Everyone. This COULD possibly mean that there will be another 30 kooks in the water that have their fins on backwards... Per beach. (not a guarentee, though)

Then again, maybe that won't happen and we will be able to watch/participate in our favorite sport in the Olympics. The possible year that Surfing will come to the Olympics is 2024, So you'll be 10 years older. For me that's great, I'll be the prime age to surf! as for you, I don't really know. That's you.

So Olympic Surfing... Yes or no?

I don't think this will work if they try. Waves don't follow an Olympic schedule.

It will happen in the summer games. They will figure out the logistics. Just a big window like any other surfing event. Golf is getting in and so will surfing. It really should be. And if the summers games are completely landlocked, they will just have them post up on the nearest coast line. I think it is inevitable.

For the 100 different events that have no reliance whatsoever anymore, I think surfing belongs. You could argue that it is bias against land locked nations, but the winter olympics as a whole are bias against 70% of the world that doesn't get snow.

They build billion dollar arenas for the events, I'm pretty sure even landlocked cities can build a wave pool, especially now that the technology is getting very good.

so yes, there will be surfing in the olympics in the future. Not sure if I like that or not.

Wave machine or wave tank maybe. Don't like that idea much

    This ^^

At least we can have the comfort that some of the new people that jump into the water in the newest surf explosion will get worked in the ocean and therefore turn into versions or shart fluffer and only surf wave pools. Then tell us how lame we are for thinking real waves in the ocean are better than the wave pool he shreds every summer, cause in the winter its still to cold for him in the pool even.

    +1 and then some

Having said that, it's unfortunately simple: follow the money.

I wish they would get rid of every sport that is judged by style. Just seems wrong, IMO.

I say no, but whatever happens is fine with me, as long as it doesn't increase the amount of people in the lineups across the world, or central FL more specifically
