public vs private school

We all need some waves. Threads and posts are getting crazier.

Yeah me and Metard made nice in a PM and agreed that we can each have our opinions. I got a little testy since I have a 2nd grader in public schools. You are right though we need WAVES!!!!!

you would be proud of me cause i have this little thing only i do in town which is wage low-level battles
on an almost daily basis which unnerve the ignorant satantic spawn as well as exasperate them. i'll

this complaint is valid. the old-folks in nj are getting hammered w/this.
at least the eskimos pushed their old out onto an iceberg to die. we are milking ours dry.

what exactly do you want in return? Did you go to private or public or neither?

 

That's a bit shortsighted… What you get from paying taxes that go toward public education is an educated workforce, able to contribute more to society than an uneducated workforce.

But if you want to keep this thread to a comparison of public and private schools, here are the three most important facts everyone should be aware of: Research has shown that, according to test scores, (1) a public school education is as good or better than a private school education; (2) public schools are far better than charter schools; and (3) public schools are open to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status - far from true regarding private schools.

We have a lot of problems in this country… one of which is child poverty. Fix that, and you'll necessarily improve the public education system.

 

and the seniors (as in senior citizens) get what? they should spend a LIFETIME paying for their public education? when you got a mortgage was your payout 70 years? decent and hard working folk that play
by the rules get throttled by new jersey taxes simply because as a group they tend to die which makes
them politically less viable (!!). in general i have no complaints about the public school system but the
inequity of property taxes is in these parts a HOT BUTTON ISSUE.

 

Public school or private doesn't matter. If a child wants to learn and enjoys learning he will. If not, he won't. This is instilled in them by the parents. If no emphasis is placed on education at home then the school that is attended is irrelevant.

 

I know it doesn't seem fair. And you could argue that retirees who can't afford to pay for school shouldn't have to. But those who can pay, should… because as long as you're alive and benefiting from the American social condition and system… meaning, if you're using the roads, public utilities, wear clothes, see doctors, buy food… you're still benefiting from society built on public education. And that costs money… always has and alway will. And IF YOU CAN AFFORD to contribute… since you never stop benefiting… you should contribute. But that's a whole other issue, and you nailed it… it's an inequity issue.

 

If one could chose where taxes are being spent, I bet the military industrial complex would have to budget their funds instead blowing billions on unneeded hardware,

 

Good Lord, stop complaining aboot paying taxes. You people don't even realize the shat you get provided by taxes. Everybody takes everything for granted.

You want to hear aboot unfair? I have to pay taxes so you sob's can drive on pretty, maintained roads. The government won't even let me drive, and I still have to pay? Now that's unfair, but it's ok because I am a team player. I'm glad you guys can drive on roads.

Yeah, let's further dumb down American society by eradicating public schools. That will help us as a society.

 

I think greater oversight of how school taxes are spent is necessary, but we definitely have to have them.

 

a good example of why oversight is needed is the superintendent of toms river new jersey schools who
is now serving an 11 year sentence. this turd played the taxpayers like a fiddle…til greed brought him down.

IMO quality education is dependent upon the amount time and effort the student puts into it and this is turn is usually dependent on the level of importance the family/parents place on education - private school or public school.
My brother is a middle school science teacher, and often the problems aren't so much with the students but the parents.

I went to public schools K-12. High school was in CA. The best and by far favorite class I ever took, and this includes college and grad school, was an "Oceanology" high school class during the summer before my junior year. Two biology teachers taught it. We learned about the oceans: tides and currents, marine biology and geology, environmental impacts of man's activities, etc. Dissected sharks and had some great field trips to tide pools, sandy beaches, museums, the Hyperion sewage treatment plant in El Segundo, and a class trip on the Occidental College research vessel. I still have the notes, handouts and the reports I did. That was summer of 71.

approaches the 'bullying' line.
