Figured it was a time for a change. I'm looking for even better ones though.

Damn Blasters what'd you jump on the L train last night? Insightful stuff, and look what you started:cool:

Sounds familiar Mr. Leety, except I don't live in Maui. I'd honestly be happy to relocate to RI, which I will do someday(hate missing weekday swells when I can't call out sick).

The LIS may not have waves, but man, amen to this. Coastal forests are the teets.

Would never work any job where I couldn't surf before, during, or after work. Browbeat my way into one where I can do all three and make good scratch besides. What did it cost? I could have made more money, maybe made a bigger impact on the world. But today, when I blast cleanly out of a spinning OH tube, I'll be happier than the richer, more successful man I could've been.

True that, if she could get her nails did and hurr did on site she would be all set, only thing she would be missing is the Mall, which NSB doesn't have, at least not one worth a sh*t HAHA

What's it called when troll account takes one of my posts and regurgitates what I typed but it comes out looking whacky like this? It's some kind of program or something, forgot what it's called, but it's weird.

Maybe! I know ZGaffer knows what it's called, maybe he'll chime in. I use to know what "they" (that's for you Gost of SJB) call it, but can't remember for the life of me.

Per diem, or two 24 hour rotation medical career folks. I suggest ya'll look into a career in the such. 5 days a week off, or pick your own hours. Medical field is damn near bulletproof, rewarding as all hell, lucrative if you specialize, attainable, and conducive to the surf lifestyle if you do it right. Plus....$. $$ is nice, especially when you're only working two days a week and chasing swell the other 5.

Male nurses are in SCARY high demand. Essentially a guaranteed job wherever you go. Specialize (NP, Cardiac, CRNA, psych, etc), and you're making bank AND have your pick of the litter hours wise.

I can't stress enough how solid med is, no matter what degree you choose. Also, for those single guys out there having issues in the GF department...walk out of the hospital rocking some scrubs with some swagger. Your problems will cease and the bluebird of happiness will simultaneously fly up your nose. Nobody is broke in med, and you go home knowing you did something that actually means something in this world.

This was a flat spell thread just thinking about how other people look at surfers as crazy, like an example why are you surfing in the snow, rain, ect. The extemes a lot of people will go to to catch a sick ride. The life risking **** for me I think is fun, but if I had a wife and what not,I'd probably think differently.

Here's the thing with that (the wife deal). Find someone that highlights your best attributes and things you love, not someone that amplifies what they want from you....more what you want from you. The love doctor is out, live long and prosper.

Wish it was as easy as that sounds, I gave up motorcycles for her (she's terrified of them), however she's supporting of my gun hobby and my newly found love of the ocean. Win some, lose some. It's a give and take, just make sure you're giving the stuff that you can live without.

That's the alien mentality preparing to adopt your identity and assume your body. I believe it's called assimilation and/or body snatching.

Sorry dude. Nice knowing you. That's what you get for living in Florida, I suppose. I see why the aliens chose to initially populate there, but the Floridian behavior has been so over the top that the impending invasion has been obvious for a while now. Dumb f*cking aliens took a page out of Operation Hello's playbook, maybe we have a chance against them.

Haha. Aint that the truth. Haven't had my daughter ask me not to surf yet, but if my wife ever hears that, she will start teaching my daughter that immediately. Most of the time, unless the surf is great, I just have to go down to the beach with the whole family. Go to the beach with the nice bathrooms, instead of where I really want to surf. Sit and play in the tide pools for a while (The key is to be there for a couple hours before you really want to surf), then magically, after you have been patient and attentive to the family, you comment on how the tide is coming up and things are start to look good, then I go out and catch a quick one. If there is really swell in the water, the wifey knows the deal.

    But thats life.

And Blaster: It's just been stupid flat lately. But if I was you, I would get outta this place as often as you can to go explore more waves, cause you never know when you will end up with a ball and chain of your own. I am not saying you need to move to Hawaii, I am just saying make a run down to Cocoa Beach over a weekend when there is swell. Take the 4.5 hours drive down, crash in a roach beater over night and head home the next night. It's good for the soul. I think it's very easy to catch island fever around here.

Just got a call today saying that I have to take a private flight down to St. Augustine for the day on Monday. My first question was, how big is the plane, and how big of a board will fit in it.

Every opportunity you get to go somewhere. ANYWHERE, do it. Charleston, WB, JAX, whatever, sh**, even hit the gulf coast.... Use your time wisely before you have even less of it.

And yeah, I do feel a "littler" better about not riding life threatening waves everytime I get the chance now that I have a daughter. Certainly makes you think of EVERYTHING differently.

Sure there are some good ones out there but myself or plently of family members haven't found them. The hospital is a death sentence. You even can go in healthy and die. George Carlin said it best. "Doctors they don't know anything, it's all guess work in a white coat" I'll take my chances avoiding those places. Most people in those fields just don't give a **** anymore. You can only count on family or friends, not doctors but we have the best healthcare in the world, lmfao.

    1) I'm married. Must be doing something right in that department. Or I suppose I don't know s*** either.

    2) What would I sacrifice for surfing? Work? Doesn't get in the way, work from home a substantial amount of the time, I live in New England (AKA flat) and currently have a relatively open schedule due to being out of class for the summer. Would I give up school for surfing? F*** no. I'm sorry, but if living the life of the surfer entails living in a van for a few years eating ramen and couch surfing when it gets cold outside, I'm all set. I suppose I'm not a purist in that sense, or I'm not f***ing whacked out of my mind. Seriously, what do these people do when they are 50....60....70....? Legs start to go...sure get on that longboard. You can drive it back to....wait, no car, because you have no job, because you're 50 with no work skills. 60...70....well, you're toast. Writing on the wall my man.

And who the hell defined who a 'real surfer' is? A few Cali underachievers that can barely spell their name after their marin county trust fund parents kicked them out for being a functional window licker? These kids out there come from upper white middle class families, sometimes even higher up on the food chain, and yet they purposely undergo this natural regression. I can't understand it for the life of me. NOBODY is broke in cali that was born in cali in any suburb. Marin county makes Upper east side and Greenwich CT look broke as a joke.

You can't be anything but a liberal if you want to be a surfer. You can't have a job if you want to be a surfer. You can't have ambition if you want to be a surfer. You can't be tied down if you want to be a surfer. F*** man I guess I'm just a hobby wave rider I suppose. I won't even call myself a surfer anymore. I'm officially a standingonwaterer.
So, in order to be a surfer, I must live in the van, and "keep it real". Honestly, I'll take the maserati and house on the water 100 yards from the break in Florida at 30.

I said some half decent stuff, and you've got to walk in here all high and mighty with your BS localism that managed to find its way into your keyboard and onto this forum. F*** localism, f*** your 'rules', f*** this 'leftists only, educated people need not apply', 'f*** the man', whatever game you're running.

Absolutely ridiculous. Yes, I don't know s*** about surfing. 99% of the reason I'm here. Turns out people talk about other things than surfing on here, I participated. 75% of the time it's fine. 25% people jump down your throats, like this...because I haven't dropped my school and moved to Costa Rica.

Whatever. I'm outta here. 5th time already and it's not even Wednesday yet. Not worth it. I don't need a forum or people to tell me what surfing is, what political alignment I need to have in order to fully understand the meaning of it, or what my lifestyle needs to encompass in order to enjoy it.

Emass, I don't know how you made it this long. I'll figure this out on my own man.

    JR out.

Your quote "Honestly, I'll take the maserati and house on the water 100 yards from the break in Florida at 30" immediately disqualifies you as a surfer. You haven't even grasped the concept of what a surfer is if your primary concern is material possessions. It is a lifestyle. You just aren't meant for it. Go trade stocks or something. The word surfer is used so frequently now, it makes me want to vomit. If you just start and can hardly surf, you are a newbie, not a surfer.

I used to think money was so much when I was younger. It's bull****. Family, friends with waves mixed in is what it's all about. All the rest is bull****.

I agree with u 100%.iv been poor forever,i did have a decent job, wouldnt call it great, but was making decent money, and when u have decent money,u tend to spend more.i was making 700 a week, which is still the highest paying job iv had to date,i lived in a luxery apartment complex by myself, ordered food every night, smoked about 140$ worth of grass a day..then a year later I was laid off, evicted, had to sleep in my car for a few months before a buddy let me crash at his pad.believe it or not, thats when I spent the most time at the beach.i didn't have anything else to look forward to,no rush to get back to the car,so id be at the beach from 7 am til 9pm from spring to fall.it was nice will it lasted

my last job I had was great, but got laid off.i literally worked within walking distance of my go to surfspot for years.on my way to and from work I was able to always check the waves, and witnessed a lot of great days nobody else really new about because it was one of those on for 2 hrs kinda day.id drive over the bridge watching my rear view and seeing a perfect barrel spit with nobody in the water.i was able to eat lunch on the beach, always checked it in the am.i was even gonna bring some boards to leave at my job to get a surf in on my lunch break but once again I get laid off.

I wouldn't sacrifice much for surfing.im not as stoked as I once was,but still love surfing and the ocean.taking days off work to go surf will get u fired.and with my hours and my work, its hard to raise an arm after 4pm.thats what was awesome with my last job, nowadays il be lazy and wont even check the surf, but when u drive past it everyday, its hard to ignore.i lost most of my friends by ditching them to go surfing, but im grown and don't give a sheit.nothing lasts forever, but the ocean will always be there
