Is different than: So no, I am not in fact on crack. I am not saying that guys haven't been surfing big Manesquan for decades. I am saying they were not surfing waves the size of what raven is on in that picture. I don't care if they use a PWC or a chopper to get out there. If guys in jersey were surfing bigger waves than that in the 80s, there would be photos of it. So......... This is not a fact, which is why I have been waiting for someone to show me otherwise, but I still would "venture to guess" that the wave that Raven got during Sandy is bigger than ANY wave, ever ridden, by PWC or by paddling, than anything ever ridden in Jersey.... And I don't want to hear everyone's old fisherman stories. I got plenty of them myself. I want to see it. If there were shots of guys riding huge waves in jersey back in the day in surfer mag, lets see em? Until proven otherwise, The biggest waves ever ridden in Delmarva or Jersey, happened that fateful day in MD/DE waters. Not in Jersey.... It really doesn't matter one way or the other, but that idea seems to really rub everyone the wrong way... I am not saying there haven't been bigger waves OBSERVED in Jersey. I am just saying, regardless of where ANYONE is from or who they are, I don't think a wave bigger than that has EVER been surfed in New Jersey water..... Please correct me if I am wrong. But I am a visual learner. Makes more sense to see it with my own eyes. Cause like I said, in my measurement terms, the wave Raven got was a LEGIT 15 footer. That wave, no that you mention it, is bigger than any wave I have seen in OBX for that matter. Some people that look at that photo may call that 20 feet, or 25. To me, that is a legit 12-15 foot (Hawaiian) wave. Show me a bigger beach break ever ridden on the east coast, much less in Jersey.....
Zack, I agree with the Ghost - I think living in SC is driving you a little nuts. Do yourself a favor and get back to the west coast….or move on up to Jerz, were very welcoming!
Wait. I found it... Y'all are right. This was taken in Bel Mar, NJ during the Irene swell. I stand corrected. Jersey: Standing Tall....
Guys, zack has set his anchor and he ain't movin. No words are gonna drag that anchor unless accompanied by pics. There...I just saved you guys two days worth of typing.
Wow, I spend 5 minutes typing and the earth's poles shifted. Jersey does get good since zack's seen it on the interweb. Dayum that's a macker. Did it wash the benches off the beach?
Hell no. The benches didn't budge. The Bel Mar artificial reef is made of nothing but dumbells, old benches and hair gel. That shot was taken in the deep water channel right as it started hitting the bel mar reefs.
I was there! I took that pic, it is Meryl Streep on the ski and Joe Piscopo about to take off. Now we can put this discussion to rest...phew...
Zach, I hate to break it to you, but I've seen pictures of a wave or two in New Jersey that look eerily similar to your prize and joy photos of Virginia Beach guys riding Sandy waves in OCMD. That town is Hammonton, Zach. Hammonton - it says so in the top, right-hand corner or all my posts. Hammonton actually has better waves than South Carolina. Your Jersey-envy runs deep. You may want to seek counseling. Hey, correct me if I am wrong, but didn't we do this Florida vs Jersey thing concerning BIG TALL WAVES like two years ago? And I don't just mean the community, but me vs you. Sniffer, did you know that Joe Pesci ate pizza at Panzone's some time ago and they took a picture of him. Sniffer, please watch out for the north Jersey influence up there. Remember we're all here just a bit further south if you need us.
I appreciate that G. My family and I planned a trip to one of the southern barrier islands this month, to get back to our roots and get some of this north jerz filth off of us. We now have a Surf Taco on the island - filthy North Jerz tacos...dang. Joe Pesci and Panzones go together like cannolis and guns…have a great 4th G!
Yes, I don't really believe tales from others or yourself. Is that you in your avatar, I ca't make out who's surfing that chest high soft barrel. I've got plenty too of me where you can't make out my face. A couple at Cloudbreak, lol
you may very well be right, but why does it matter if some break in Fla can hold a bigger swell than NJ? Its still the same waves (with exception that Fla may see better long period swells during cane season). As a whole Florida doesn't get better surf. If someone wants to ride big waves, they go out west or across the atlantic or wherever the ocean is deeper. Its a silly argument. Im not biased bc I live and surf here in NJ either. Its just the facts. Florida goes off, NJ goes off, RI goes off, but it still sucks if you like long period stuff and want to surf every week. Also the talent of some of these guys from the east coast is mind blowing for what we are faced with in regards to flat spells. I also think that the "hardcore" factor is a little more in favor for surfers in the northeast who brave the cold and most importantly, the steeper short period, crunching closeouts. I have always said, if you can surf well here you can surf well anywhere on the planet. Cool story huh?
Yes, I don't remember everyone involved, but we definitely hashed this out before. And if you have seen pictures of waves like that, where are they? My Jersey-envy may be deep, but your southern and Florida envy is far deeper and much more apparent. And don't derail the actual conversation at hand. If you want to talk about Hammonton vs. South Cackilack, we can do that all day brother. all day long. Whatchu know bout SC? I have surfed these Jersey waves before. Have you been down here?
haha, chest high soft barrel? I hear ya. Only photos I have in any of my galleries are of me. How about you?
Lmao, You are calling that bigger than chest, maybe shoulder. Wow, you ride it and it's 8 feet, lmao. I don't look for people taking pictures of me. If they did, I would hope they zoomed in a little to show my face. Otherwise, who knows who it is.
BTW, have we met? it is becoming all too common for you to randomly to be popping up in my threads, because to date, I have never been "talking to you" about anything.
I doubt it. Don't get your panties in a bunch. I just don't believe what I read on these forums about people's surfing skills and the waves they ride. It's all internet bs and I can guarantee most is BS. You seem to spew a lot of BS on this site.
