Figure this tread is a good change of pace from our typical archetypes of CenAm trip guides, swell hypes, score reports (keep em coming though!), which wetty, *ongs, *ello, etc. Growing out my hair for only the second time ever. My first three decades were straight up crew cut or buzz cut only. Then in 2010, I figured what the hell and let it go feral for the better part of a year and a half. It was fun, man. But lots of maintenance. I'd wake up looking like Einstein and have to manage it every morning. Conditioner was also getting more expensive than the weekly or bi-monthly trims I wasn't having to invest in. Didn't go back to the buzz or crew in 2012 but more the fohawk. It'd gotten longer again as of a couple weeks ago when I woke up from a dream that I had started to let the flow rock hard again. Same day, I went to my barbershop and the guy who's been cutting me for the last 2 years was out from an injury. Took it as a collective sign that I needed to rock it out again. I'm at the pubescent stage now where it's too long to look good short and too short to look good long. But after sticking it out another 1-2 weeks I will be in the clear and donning some serious lettuce again. For you bros who let the locks flow luxuriously, what do you do to minimize PITA? Do you wash it compulsively or go Bob Marley and not at all? How do you style it and what are your goals with it? Discuss.
Always buzz my head except for a few years were I grew my hair out to about my bottom rib. Didn't do much to it, just took a shower then ran my fingers through it real quick and push the hair out of my face. If I didn't shower that day, just throw a hat on. Got quite annoying in the winter with the good and all. Iv been thinking of growing it back out again, but I hate that awkward phase
"...flow luxuriously..."?? Didn't check Search, but I believe this topic is a new one. If you must know, it's the shampoo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLNRRjBUoCY Enjoy your luxurious head of hair while you have it, young man.
I had hair down to my chin when I was in my teens, skater hair cut I guess you'd say, then I went short and have kept it that way for the most part. I had tried getting my hair back to the length it once was about 5 or so years ago but I abandoned ship when I got sick of it being in the between / awkward stage you describe. Funny though because that's when my now wife started showing interest. She thought it was cute, I did not. I've since returned to my fade, the barber uses a 3 guard on the clippers up top, and then fades it down to no guard on the clippers around the side / back, get it nice and edged up, looks clean and sharp. Very low maintenance, can walk out the house without doing anything to it and it looks good. My father in-law is a retired career drill sergeant from the Army, he always smiles when I walk in with a fresh fade, he says it's nice and "high and tight" and laughs. Most people who don't know me ask if i'm in the military. I don't think it's a bad thing, but I find it funny, cause I've never been in the military (almost joined the Air Force, but never did). Maybe one day i'll let it grow out again, who knows. Luckily I haven't lost any hair yet, got a few more grey hairs then i'd like, but overall I could do w/e I want with my hair at this point. I just prefer the low maintenance over the constant work of dealing with long hair, plus I hate when it gets in my eyes, especially when surfing or doing anything athletic. Having very short hair keeps it from ever getting in the way. Just my .02

Grown mine out a couple of times, It takes commitment, for sure. I think there is like a "glory period" where once you have pushed through the "always in your eyes" phase and can finally get it to stay somewhat out of the way. Like... 90's Occy length. Once it gets past like your shoulders, it gets to where it takes forever to dry, looks ratty when down, girly when up etc. Then you pull the trigger on a "trimming" and end up looking like real housewives of LA. I am famous for back to back haircuits after long hair, the trim, followed immediately by the buzzzz. Someone mentioned their military father in law, well, ditto, when I got hitched, he said "Now I just have to figure out who to walk down the aisle"
I'm so relieved. I thought from the thread title that this was going to be about that time of the month when my wife is even less accommodating than usual....
