Good choice! Sweeeet - post the real thing when you get it! And remember to let it sit for a little... If you surf a brand new board after glassing- they ding super easy. They call it a 'green' board... Maybe hang it on the wall for 3 weeks - unless you like heel marks on the deck!!
I hope so. Greg contacted me a few weeks ago saying he was ready to finish it. I've called / emailed him a couple times in the last week or two but no response yet. I don't know if he's out of town with Eric or Evan, but I'm eager to try it out before summer is gone. Hopefully he responds soon and I can go pay for it, pick it up and take it for a spin, all in one day. Provided the glassing is solid and doesn't need time to "cure" or w/e. If it's been sitting there done, I guess it would be ready to go. Will post some pics of it when I get my hands on her.
That's what I was afraid of. I've seen plenty that look cool, but more that look crappy. I also have no desire to stick out like a sore thumb either. When it comes to LB's, I really enjoy the classic look. For a HPSB I allow for a little more flashiness. Yeah man, I hope it turns out the way I envisioned it.
I've done two or three swirls. solidly in the "sh!t" category. way too much muddiness from squeegee work by the time you're out at the rails. So does this... ...pretty much mean your successfully poured swirl is going to use about double the resin as you would for a clear lamination?
My All time fav. longboard was/is a jim "the genius" phillips. That board was sick. I have the blank still its stripped and drying in my garage rafters waiting to be re-glassed.
Very true. Not all swirls look bad. I knew I guy at one of the production glass shops I worked at in Socal who did really cool 1/2 board swirls pulled rail to rail. Color work is a good way to break the monotony of doing lots of clear lams. Some of the Lucky Bastards color work is pretty damn cool. I don't get the glitter obsession thing though. Can't believe those color boards with glitter sell like they do.
Didn't ask for it like this, but apparently gnats got in glassing so I wound up with a colored glass job.
Wait, you didn't ask for that color scheme but that's what they gave you? That would piss me off! It looks cool though.
Now i'm worried about what my board is going to look like, don't know how i'd react if it's something completely off the wall
Board is finished, can't pick it up till next week cause I have prior obligations. Hope to have waves next weekend, got a hotel booked just in case. He said it came out great! Hope to get a pic first but will post when I get my hands on her either way.
