Hahahaha you're right about that Gaff, and quite the funny way as always to demonstrate your point. Sometimes I surprise myself with this computer stuff, then you guys start talking about bytes and code and all this other crazy stuff...I think you and capecodcdog went pretty deep into it one day.

I am gonna get with the times and get a smart phone, as soon as I can bring myself to going to the phone store after work, and I'm thinking Galaxy just b/c I hear the camera is great.

Zombie well done on the sick day, I'm debating the same for tomorrow.

Already came up with an excuse to be off tomorrow so I can surf the Gulf. Yep, I called out for Gulf waves, it's better than no waves, right?

I felt the same way when I got my iPhone 4S. Which Galaxy does the wife have? I can't vouch for the old ones, but the 4 and 5 are the tits. I was all about my iPhone and one of the managers who worked for me was a big android guy. He was always dloading stuff and showing me all about the phone. He pitched it to me for so long, I changed my views. I look at the iPhones now and they look so tiny.

The only thing I will say about the iPhone, even though the Galaxy has high megapixels and supposedly has a better video camera, I still think that the iPhone's camera system is WAY more intuitive and takes cleaner action shots, photos and video. I have used iPhone photos for professional print jobs and the auto focus is amazing. The Galaxy has all these video features, but it just doesn't "think" the way the iPhone does...

So, on paper, the Galaxy camera is better, but something about the iPhone just makes it "smarter" when you snap a lot of photos....

But ohh well. I loved every moment I had with the iPhone. Can't hate on it too much. The straw that broke the Camels back was that I had a busted screen. Front and back. I even had a case on it. Fell out of my pocket one day, barely even hit the ground, bam, cracked to hell.... Same thing happened to my wife.

And the final Galaxy selling point, was when the guy took his Galaxy and threw it about 15 feet across the room, up against a wall and it smacked on the ground. He walked over, dusted it off and it didn't even had a scratch. He said, that is yet another reason why these phones are better. The Galaxy 5 is water proof, crack proof, the whole nine. You can take that thing under water and play games on it....

I still have an otter box on mine, but I don't have to worry about damaging the thing at all really.

Ohh, and there are no Sprint Cell/PCS towers on Hilton Head Island. I didn't even have service in my house, or at my restaurant. Every call would drop at the bridge. No reception in a store. It rendered the phone useless. They told me they would send me some magnification equipment to boost my signal, but they wanted like 200 bucks per unit and people that had them on the island said they still didn't work....

So, at the time, Verizon had the free iPhone 5 or the new Galaxy. Copped the new galaxy for free with a new contract. It just kind of worked out that way.

    Haha, yeah.

It's a close one. My hatred for apple is on a grand level, not really about the phone. If you don't mind paying for apps and music, and not being able to play movies or videos, or you don't use your phone for those reasons, the the iPhone is great.

To each their own. But with that being said, I guess I will stop my ranting and raving.

I loved my iPhone, I just love the Galaxy more. freedom of information is a big deal to me. It always has been. I used to write open source code a lot. That is how things get better. Being transparent. Apple is many things, transparent is NOT one of them.

That is also why a linux machine will never get hacked and never crash. Open source. Freedom of information. Because all BS aside, if I isolated any of your IP addresses, and you are on a MAC or a PC, I could shut your machine down from my linux box at home with the click of one button.

I'm basically gonna use the phone for talking, texting, taking pics...no apps, social media, that other stuff...I like transparency too.

That's what I thought before I finally got a smartphone (iPhone 4) last year. I don't have a ton of apps but I couldn't imagine not having my radar, tide, wind and weather apps. Google maps, moon phase and calendar are good too. All free, just basic stuff.

I like my iPhone just fine. No troubles. But I agree with Zach as far as transparency. I hate iTunes. Totally user unfriendly software at least for me. I wish I could just access stuff on my phone like it was a jump drive.

I think she has the Galaxy S2 if i'm not mistaken. It was great at first but they don't give anymore updates for it so they force you into the new model. I'm not sure if Apple still supports the older iphones with new software updates or not, but her Galaxy is on it's last leg because of this. I bet the newer ones are the "tits" for sure. I got the "Lifeproof" case for my Iphone 5, so it too can be under water, won't break if you drop it, etc., but it requires the case to make that happen, which is fine w/me. It's a great phone so far, can't complain really.

True that, I got some good surf in over last weekend, but i'm already itching to get back out and the upcoming weekend on the E. Coast aint looking so hot, so 3ft Gulf wind swell (hopefully not too choppy) will have to hold me over.

Yeah, its about waist high with light offshore here all week. Green, but small. Gonna take the LB out tomorrow and probably all weekend just to get wet.

I'm currently using a Galaxy S3. I got it years after having crappy "just below expensive" android phones that all sucked wind. The S3 changed all that. I'm sure it'll do a lot more than I request of it but I've had no problems that weren't user negligence (dropped it before I could order a case). The thing just works.

When I can upgrade I'd have to read the review of all reviews to sway me away from the S5. But I will take my contractor friends advice toss the thing in the pool the 1st day I get it and before I customize to my liking. I'd rather find out day 1 if it isn't as watertight as promised.

Yeah, the Galaxy s4 and s5 are actually TOO SMART. I turned off most of the features, because for general use, they piss me off.

Like, the vision setting. It follows your eye balls, so as you read anything on your phone, it autoscrolls. Weird, but cool, but sometimes it gets funky. Also, the motion swiping. Hands free stuff. It was cool at first, but I turned it off because if you raise anything over your phone sideways, it starts swiping... It also has the video pause, where if you fall asleep or even look away from your phone, it will automatically pause a video. So when you pull up a video, play it and try and show someone, as soon as you move the phone away, it stops....

I mean, the list goes on and on as far as what the s4 and s5 do... Awesome stuff, but not very practical. The kids love it, but it just got to be too much so I turned is all off.

And have you guys seen the Galaxy Projection app? It turns your Galaxy into a 1080p projection screen and displays a holographic keyboard out in front of it, so it is a full on projection PC. You can throw a video feed up on the wall.... Insane.

I would definitely say the S4 takes better pictures than the Iphone 5. The resolution, at times, is excellent. But it takes rather poor pictures in high-contrast situations, with a brightly cloudy sky, the sun above some mountains trees, etc... not sure if the Iphone performs better in this regard, but in my experience the GS4 is otherwise a much better camera phone.

GS5's waterproofing is attractive but otherwise it is not much of an advancement from the GS4, so you could save yourself some money by sticking with the 4 unless you really need the waterproofing. I would even say go for the GS3, as you could get a used one pretty cheap, and if you like it a lot then upgrade. If you don't, sell it on Ebay and try an Iphone 4.

Whatever you do, be very careful of phone addiction. Once you have the internet on your phone, you have SI on your phone. You start out just checking weather and wave forecasts. Next thing you know you're under the train tracks, sucking someone off for one more bar of WIFI signal strength. Be strong my friend.

Not to mention that FIFA and Madden are INSANE on the s4 and s5. I also dug up a bunch of APKs from old arcade games I liked. I have Mortal Combat. Xmen Children of the Atom... Some cool throw back sh**.....

MC4 is insane on it too....

Yeah, true that on the camera thing too. It has higher capabilities than the iPhone... But when I use the iPhone and Galaxy to take pictures of our dinner specials and stuff at night and post it on facebook and twitter, and the iPhone was just more intuitive. The contrast and everything. The phones just look professional... If you sit there and really get the phone steady and dialed in, the Galaxy is great, but I do a lot of events now, music, shows, staging and when I take action shots or a lot of quick snaps, they just don't look as good as it...

To be honest, when I go on site, I bring my iPhone 4s with me.... The only thing the iPhone sucks at is in dark rooms. The Galaxy blows it away in that situation.

If you want to know what a phone's pic's are generally like check out flickr.com They have a camera search function. You'll be able to get an idea of what the average quality will look like...not pics from a pro that are probably photoshopped too.
