A friend and i are taking a trip in a few weeks to El Salvador.

We are still up in the air as to which area to go to; East or West.
We will only be there for 4-5 days, so I doubt we'll be able to get to both areas.

For those that have been to both, can you make any recommendations? Pros/Cons of each? If you had to go to one area, which would you choose? We would probably stay in Tunco on the West side and Flores on the East.

If you can recommend a place to stay, that would be helpful too.

    Thanks for the help

can someone tell me how to have a better than good time? like, i want to know how i can have so much fun my d**k falls off and my head explodes, at the same time. i don't want to explore anything. i want to know exactly where to go when I get there. that way, i have a good time and score perfect waves with just the right amount of debauchery. thanks!

Asking for opinions on whether to surf the east side or west side of an incredibly dangerous and unpredictable country is hardly not wanting to explore on your own.

You have more options on the west side vs. east. But I have heard good things about the wild east. I think you will find accomodations and crowds in both areas though.

Hey Salt, Please enroll in an English 101 course at a nearby community college. It looks like you could use a refresher in proper grammar and punctuation. Afterwards, you could post some type of meaningful and intelligent responses on the forum.

El Sal has the 4th highest murder rate in the world, just below Hondorus and Guatemala.
Why do you think they are all beating down our door at the border?
Can you go there and be smart and surf and be safe? Absolutely.
But you need to be a little careful. A little planning goes a long way. El Sal is not the type of country to just "wing it". It's not Costa.

I've only been to West side but when I was there Jimmy told me that if I was going east to time it with the tide. I think it was low tide coming in while it is still glassy in the Am. Check it out!

    Dearest Trifin1,

My sincerest apologies go out to you. It seems I lacked clear judgment at the time of replying to this chap's questions about his upcoming holiday. I offer you my sincerest appreciation regarding your candor.

A good day to you. A good one, indeed!
    Kind Regards,

been down there. i winged it; came back in one piece.

there is, however, some truth to the picture you paint w/such broad strokes. its there only place i ever
hired a bodyguard. newark, new jersey also makes me want one…

the reason they come here is always the same. they can improve their lives and those of their children
by becoming an american. it really is the greatest country in the world and if you think not take a gander
at what a tizzy so much of the rest of the world is in...

High tide makes the east breaks kinda fat and ****ty, sometimes they shut down completely. Look at the tides and remember morning evening for glass off. El Salvador contains more brazilian surfers than rio fyi.

Noted. Now I don't want to go. I'd rather do Nica.

Agree I would do the same to try to get here to improve my life. Many come here for that, as well as fleeing Central America also due to extreme violence, with El Sal has in many areas.
I find a lot of surfers very ignorant, or maybe just naïve of the problems in other countries though. Countless surfers and naïve travelers have found out the hard way...take the guy who decided to ride a motorcycle through mainland Mex as an example (found in a bag buried in the desert last week).
Back to the original post, if someone asked should they stay in Newark/Camden or LBI when visiting NJ I would offer some advice.
Trouble will find you just about anywhere if you go looking for it. It's just a lot easier to find in some places/countries, especially El Sal. The facts are it has the 4th highest murder rate in the world, higher than anywhere in the middle east and Africa even, and other crime is quite high also. Informed travelers should know what to expect.
