About damn time someone made a good documentary on the wise old Turkey Vulture. No screenings on the EC but hopefully that'll change. Here's the trailor:

Coming from past experience on indie movies, I highly doubt it will show any where near RI. Its not artsy enough for risd kids and the rest of population doesn't giving a flying F*ck. Have to wait for it to come out on dvd.

I know, I'm hoping at least an NYC showing. I'd take the train down for that.

Thanks for this seldom, I feel like I saw this a couple years back, but regardless its nice to see it again. There is a video where Abbey is driving around Arches in the convertible talking about how he hates people and roadways.. I will see if I can find it

'Desert Solitaire' ...... incredible: Abbey is/was The Man .... read DS when I was in my teens & it had a huge impact.
Today's rapidly intensifying global destruction of our own planet & everything on it by humans: Abbey called it all.

( btw if someone is a lover of Walmart don't read the book because you just don't get it)

Does it count when you love the wal mart because they let you cash questionable checks and get 20$ cash back???

I read Desert Solitaire when I first moved to the southwest. at first I thought he was a complainer with no real agenda other than to act like a pissant. After spending what seemed like an eternity dragging kids around the high desert, I started to take a look around. I picked the book back up and started to see what abbey talks about... while all the land is unforgiving, no towns for hundreds of miles, there always is a sign of industrial destruction. Whether its mining, clear cutting, or dumping the impact is everywhere.

There was an area of about 10 square miles that was once a 1500 yr old juniper forest, clear cut for 40 head of cattle to roam. The fencing ran through a major elk migration route, pushing the migrating elk into federal hunting lands. Whether it was intentional or not I don't know, but it just shows the pure ignorance of those that live there.

I wish some of them could come east and see whats happened to wildlife around here. ****s a sad sad mess

Ed Abbey made me realize I wasn't insane. Desert Solitaire is just fantastic.

    Hayduke Lives!

"You know, what I’m gonna do, is I’m gonna fight to preserve wilderness, and to hell with habitat for humanity. To hell with it. You can wipe that one right out of your collective consciousness."

Recent interview with Doug Peacock. Friend of Ed's and a fellow Earth liberator, former Green Beret/Vietnam Vet, real deal Grizzly observor(not like that poor guy that got eaten), and last but not least, inspiration for the character George Washington Hayduke.

"Wilderness, in America or anywhere else, is the only thing left that is worth saving.”

"I've come to the conclusion that wilderness, in America or anywhere else, is the only thing left that is worth saving."

The 2 arguments I hear the most about climate change are that the climate changes all the time and that we can't fix the earth, the earth will fix itself. What do you guys think of these.

It certainly does change on it's own, on a geologic time scale though...I think we're certainly accelerating the process. In my opinion, and I'm not a climatologist, we'll run out of space and overpopulate before the climate kills us.
