Serious problem, they have multiple litters per year...and are without a doubt highly invasive. Tastey though eh?

Are coyotes endemic to the south? I'm sure they pose a fraction of a threat that these wild hogs do.

Very tasty. Better when smaller though. They're gross looking beasts. Built for battle, this one had a layer of fat on it 3-4 inches thick with scars from other boar's tusks that didn't even hit actual flesh. Covered in ticks too. I thought about bringing a pressure washer and spraying them down but never did. The hogs really don't pose too much danger to anything other than crops but they are definitely capable if cornered. Plenty of evidence on youtube too.

Coyotes are making a big comeback. Being a predator they do pose a threat but mainly to small dogs and cats. There is a fox den somewhere around my office and we've seen them a couple times per week lately. This is downtown Charleston right by the Citadel so we're not out in the sticks either. I haven't heard of any attacks on people from the coyotes, I have heard of fox attacks but they're usually rabid when they attack. Nevertheless, I think we should kill anything that looks like a wolf. Wolves are bad.

Make love not war? Come on Manisses. Guns aren't bad. They're a tool that does a task. And if you've ever chosen an organic or non-GMO product over processed food you should be able to appreciate taking wild game. I mean that's the final frontier for organic, GMO free, unprocessed food. I can't claim that I only eat wild game. It really makes a small percentage of my diet but if I were able to only eat fish I caught or meat I killed I'd definitely do it. No steroids, antibiotics, growth hormones or any other tampering going on with them just mother nature doing her thing.

SS, I was joking about the wolf thing.

Not taking that bait Clemson :D

This whole hog phenomena is interesting, the last I checked they believed them to be a cross b/t russian wild boar(which get huge) and something else. They pose a lot of danger if there are enough...they will eat absolutely anything, and aside from crops, they'll eat up native vegetation and out compete native species. They can breed year round and each lady hog(sow?) can have 2 litters(I stand corrected) per year..

Even the piggies the colonists brought up here(ya know the pink farm ones) were said to be the most destructive introduced species of the time, obviously with cattle trailing closely behind.

I know you too well by now Clemson.

Hey one last question...are worms an issue w/ the meat? Or trichonosis(sp) or whatever that is that ya can get from pork?

Yeah, I don't think they were ever native to the States and were all introduced. Around here they are feral hogs meaning they've escaped farmer john and made it to the big time. It's amazing how fast your generic pink pig will turn into a black-haired, tusk wielding, sex machine once it escapes.

Hog farms are pretty gross. They take the little piglets and basically rip the tusks out along with the gonads days/weeks after birth.

Welcome to Pig Talk with Clem!

It's my understanding that as long as you don't like you pork chops rare you're ok. 160 degrees is the minimum I think but we always cook them until they're falling apart.

You shouldn't store them in the bag, especially those soft cases. They attract moisture, and that's bad. Its better to just lean them in a closet or whatever in open air.

Don't know about wild hogs but the FDA now says you can cook your commercial pork to a juicy 145deg. which is just past the pink stage.

You can purchase a sporting rifle in NJ as long as it does not have 2 of the no-nos on it. Which is pretty dumb when you look at the list.

You can purchase an AK as long as the firearm is not list/advertised/sold as an AK. As, the AK name itself is ban but, a lot of people purchase ak-47 and ak-74 not listed as AK's. Another stupid NJ gun law.
