I own a successful marketing company with an office 3 blocks from the beach, and 3 blocks from my home. We operate in the clean energy space so I'm not just making money, I'm doing something great for the world. AND... I can surf on my lunch break, can you? or do you have a job?

You're absolutely right. In many firms, including mine and my job, it's the duty of the marketing group to identify what those products are. Find a need, understand all of the critical aspects of that need, and let the R&D folks figure out how to make something to meet that need. And no, we don't make "as seen on TV" stuff.
