You don't know how badly I wish this was correct. You might be confusing us with further south? Our winter water temps here average in the mid 40's and at its absolute coldest drops to the upper 30's. Most Jan-March air temps are 45 or below. I know it's colder north, duh, but 40 degree water, and 40 degree air with 20+ north wind is no walk in the park. We're in 5/4's in the winter too, and freezing, maybe to a lesser degree, but it aint 59 degrees. Not until May usually.

Didn't I tell you don't respond to my posts anymore???

    Neither of those are true.

    Also see above.

    Love,
    "this guy"

    Duh.

I am saying duck dive, be safe, worry about others, if your a newbie on the inside (with no one around obviously) or in a bad situation (with no one around obviously) the proper way to control your board is to grab the leash near the board and let the board oscillate behind you.

With a board of that size and his experience level it is a good tip that I am comfortable enough to give because learning to duck dive can be hard especially with a board that big. Should you try to always duck dive? YES. I believe in preparing people for the best and also the worst because not everyone can paddle out their first time on their new 3 1/2 inch thick board and surf like a seasoned pro. And yes you have to make mistakes to learn.

Maybe it is just that different in NJ and CA because here the waves are explode on the bar.

I think you misunderstood my post with a side of flamboyant overreaction.

Frisco is listed at what I mentioned. You're north of there bro? 40-40-20 is cold, yes. In the gnar category for sure.

I'm 20 min north of Frisco. But Frisco/Hatteras is always at least 5 or 10 degrees warmer than Avon/Buxton.

Wow that's madness! Haven't heard of such a disparity elsewhere in such proximity. What's the cause of that? Are you somehow sheltered from gulf stream? Just throwing out first thought. Have no idea how temp could be that different that close and interested to learn why!

There's a finger of warm gulf stream water that comes close to Hatteras/Frisco and sometimes Buxton. Its not unheard of with upwelling in the summer for Hatteras to be 82, Avon (20 mins north) to be 72, and Rodanthe (45 mins north) to be 65. While Nags head (1.5 hours north) will be like 58. Kinda crazy it can be close to a 20-25 degree difference within an hour or so, but it does happen. Usually only for a few days.

I think that 6-8 would be doable, but would probably be a little too thick. Thickness on a board requires golidlocks measurements, meaning not too much, not too little. I think that the thickness for you would cause a loss of stability not to mention inability to maneuver through the lineup.

You should get your stability from width and wave catching ability from relaxing of rocker, not volume.

This would be a good board for you: http://www.stretchboards.com/boards/surfboards/it.php

Here's pricing and dims in stock: http://store.stretchboards.com/product/it

Good post Andrew. I have that board in 7'7. It's got a hell of a lot of performance for a midlength. It's quadded too so speed is not lacking. Good suggestion. They're not cheap though, especially not with the added options. Those boards will last you a long ass time though. Durable as hell.

I love my 6'8" all condition board. I will ride it in pretty much anything. At first, you are going to feel like you have no stability. Keep trying, because you will eventually figure out the right foot placement and realize how good it feels to have real maneuverability. When I jump on the old 10' log, it takes some effort to even turn a little. Hop back on your 6-8 after that, and you will start to really have some fun.

Yo seldom you speak as if that's something new haha! I'm actually exhausted. About to hit it. I crushed work straight from when you and I talked earlier right til now with only a few short breaks in between. Great productive day but lots of phone calls wear you down.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. Still waiting for the episode climax to see if that dude bought a damn board.

If you had ever ridden it, you would understand why. I love my log, but people don't seem to care bout the longboards as much around these parts. Would you prefer I just talk about the boards I hate?
