If anyone has surfed northend of ocean city NJ, You know this couple I am about to talk about, they are summer surfers and shoobs, and KOOKS. I know some seasonal surfers who are fun and great, not these two.

he is a little mexican looking guy with a goatee and the most punchable face you ever did see
she is a busty blond that looks like a cross between barbie and bugs bunny with her big front teeth

It was a pretty sick day, the lefts at __street were on fire (sand, swell angle and wind were all perfect) and the boys were on it, tubes right off the rocks and then other peaks further down, just perfect shoulder hi plus, first swell where it wasn’t balls cold, 4/3 boots, no gloves, their first swell of the year that they were seen in the lineup

Now for the record, my wife and I surf, she is not good, so we stay away from crowds, out of common sense and respect for the boys. the neighborhood knows us, been there for decades untill we moved, so we would get a pass, but we dont want/need a pass, we want to be respectful

So, little mexi-man calls up his girl to come to the peak and 'get some'
she is a middle aged semi athletic (looks good, but mostly non athletic) and nosedives/pearls on the reg with her 1000$ longboard.

I said 'bro, what are you doing, this is the peak for the boys who know what they are doing, your girl is dangerous' (this isnt our first argument, summers past I gave him sh!t for snaking neighborhood high school kids, he didnt react well to that either)

he screams WHAT, WHO ARE YOU! I WILL MAKE YOU BLEED!!!!! along with other nonsense
I laughed, my friends laughed and then the other folks in lineup were screaming to me I WILL MAKE YOU BLEED while laughing. Meximan and his bunny love stayed off the peak and surfed their shame nuggets while the boys continued to get tubed.

    the end

another time, __street was going off, whole neighborhood of all the locals was scoring huricane swell rights, some big nuggets, everyone on shortboards. A summer time PA school principle paddles out on his longboard and paddles for at least 5 waves, missing everyone and just looking a kook, in the middle of a very very tight pack of locals who are surfing around him and just pissed that he cant fit into rotation due to his lack of skill and awareness. I asked him if he felt uncomfortable, he said no, I told him he must not be paying attention then. everyone laughed and he paddled away.

    the end

I have a few more, but those stand out
I have a knack for saying the most poignant things in a disarming way with a smile, so folks get the message, but dont know if they should punch me in the face or not. its a gift.

Almost got Into a brawl with a fisherman who cast out his line when I was on a wave, and his butt ugly burnt looking cig smoking warthog of a wife two years ago. It was loud, ugly, had 4 Betties with me at the time. We coulda took Em, but, well, he backed down. But not until after he killed a sea gull with his fishing hook. I changed beach breaks after that. He had dead eyes and I didn't want to ever see him again. Probably was from Jersey originally.

I move over when guys drop in on me. And apologize profusely if I accidentally drop in on them. It's a really friendly beach, never even seen ugly words exchanged.

[ Just lots of flapping jaws![/QUOTE]

Same down south. Last beatdown I saw was 30 years ago. Back when I was coming up it was not uncommon to see some punches thrown. The best beating I saw was two well known surfers got in a beef. One dude starts stretching and practicing his karate moves on the beach while the other dude is paddling in. When the dude gets out the water the karate kid gets in his stance and starts making some F*cked up noise. By now 1/2 the line up has paddled in and is watching. The fight commences and the karate kid never even gets a shot in. The other dudes beats him into the sand then paddles back out. Classic.

This type of stuff happens when you hang out in a crowd....that is what you get.

Anyway, this guy dopped in on me up in KDH.....I didn't say a word. I just stared at him with my good eye for about five minutes. He was very weary of me, and left.

Good story. The second part you mentioned about, exactly what I will never do. If my girl wants to learn how to surf, I will gladly take her to a local shop and pay for her to get a private lesson to get the basics down. In my experience it's better to have a third party teach friends/loved ones how to surf than to do it yourself. Almost like having too much conflict of interest.

And as far as fights in the water go, almost got into a stupid altercation with some aggro ocean city local. It was a small knee-waist high late summer day and only 3 guys out (believe it or not), me included. I got two waves waves and this douche dropped in on me. I kept my mouth shut because I was just trying to enjoy my few hours I had free. Third time he dropped in on me I kept behind him and after the wave ended he flipped the fck out on me, screaming like a little girl telling me to go into the beach and he’s going to beat my a$$ yatta yatta yatta. And I just looked at him and after a moment of silence I just said dude wtf is your problem, you’re the one who’s been dropping in on me? Proceeded to state how he’s a local and surf there all the time (never seen him there ever before btw) and continued to say how we should go into the beach and fight. Told him I’d be more than happy to if he told me how I disrespected him. Couldn’t give me an answer and told me to leave him alone. He paddled off like a baby and then went in.

Another time was maybe a month or two ago? But some PA tourist decided to fish at our break. There was probably already at least 20 surfers in the water at this point (only about 830 in the morning) and he casted his line repeatedly into the lineup. Everyone got pissed and was cursing him out from the water until the one older head (who was shredding on a SB to boot) went in and had some words with him. One of the locals at this spot, a real chill bigger dude named John with long hand and a beard went in to play good cop. If it wasn’t for John I’m sure this fisher would have had his face firmly planted into the asphalt parking lot. Needless to say he stopped fishing. Pretty comical scene from the lineup.

HAHAHAHA dude, MIS I've seen these too before and can vouch for every word you've said. I haven't surfed OC much lately since my girls parents live at a shore more north of OC and have been surfing there a lot. But I remember a couple years back they'd always show up in the summer time. I remember this crazy thunderstorm rolled in one August day and everyone in the water who had a brain paddled in. Those two stayed out as lighting was striking the water a few miles out. He eventually came in but left her out there by herself lmaooo

I've never understood why people surf fish where people are swimming/surfing ect. I saw a guy set the hook on a womans calf. She screamed bloody murder and the guy is still trying to reel in what he thinks is a big fish. Some people helped her out the water and you could see 2 prongs of the hook buried in her leg. Ouch.EMS showed up and took her to the hospital. Always wonder what happened afterwards?

    I've seen...

    Lifeguards punched.
    Cops Punched.
Cops on the sand with knees in surfer's backs while cuffing them.
    Boards thrown onto the jetty.
Boards swam out and left to float away.
Boards swam out and left on top of channel markers.
Boards just flat out taken away.
Board punched, kicked, cut, used as weapons, etc.
    Groms fighting each other.
Packs of groms fighting old men.
    Old men fighting each other.
    Surfers fighting tourists.
    Countless verbal arguments.
And a dolphin kill a bird....all at the 1st Street Jetty.

Now let me tell you about the Croatan side...

    I too agree with fungus.

Sent my woman on like a waist high wave she ate it, two years later it is still a sore subject, didn't realize we don't all kinda like getting worked. Wasn't fun at all for either of us.

(she is a champion swimmer btw but she insists on being pushed into waves like a sprout LOL)

    Great stories guys, everyone.

Yep, they're out there every saturday. I've seen her drop in on more than a few people. Never had a hard time with him, probably because my friend introduced me to him first time i saw him out there.

I wont drop her real name, but the only incident I have seen on HHI since I have been here, was during the Sandy swell. This lady was over on the shoulder, small talking with me yada yada. I have not even lived here a month so I didn't know anyone. She knew everyone else out in the lineup by first name....

So, she was right in the middle of the pack, when another local guy took off on a nice left hander, he was up and had already made 2 turns and this lady drops right in on him... She just did the down the face straight line while he rode behind her. I saw him raise his hands up to his sides while they were surfing in a WTF manor... So, as they paddle back out, this Lady is just reeming the guy. Cussing at him. Saying all kinds of crazy stuff. So he is paddling side by side with her. All I heard him say was "damn ladies_real_name, you dropped in on me, and now you are screaming about it??? WTF? then he just laughed it off and everyone in the lineup was chuckling at it.

They were all locals, her included. She definitely seemed a bit off just from our conversation, but it was really funny to see a local drop in on another local and then proceed to cuss him out. It was all time. I think she actually said "why are you snaking my wave" at one point. Classic.

Any other in water incident I have had with people, the guilty part has showed nothing but class every time. Hand shake, first names exchanged... Actually made "friends" with a guy that totally snaked me in a dangerous situation, because he was apologetic, shook my hand and did the right thing... If everyone would just act that way, we would all be better off....

So much nicer here then the typical classless line ups of SoCal...
