How do you like the V3 Rocket? I've read a lot of good things about it. I wish Firewire would produce that one.
I'm 6-4 245 fair shape - when I'm dry for a while, I always use width 1st 22" plus - thickness 2nd 3" plus, then the length anything 8' plus is fine. So how wide is the 9' board? Wide and fat is always a good choice for big guys who are newbs.
5'11" - 185-195lbs 6'6" 5 Fin Cog 7'6" Channel Islands Water Hog 8'0" Custom Mid-length Single Fin All boards go great in NoMoCo. Bought the Cog for quad set-up but goes better as 3 fin. Fast as hell. Turns on a dime. Can't go wrong with da Hog - great all round board. The 8'0" is the most fun though. Despite the duct-tape, that sucka catches everything and is a blast to pump down the line. This morning's session was nearly the 6'6" but changed it out last second for the 8'0". Definitely the right choice as it suited Eduardo's minimal but fun groundswell. Ridiculously high wave count today. Peeeeelers. That's all that counts in my book.
6'2.5" 220lb bench 415lbs (light days) 1. Boneyard LongBoard 9ft 3" thick 2. Rusty DI 8ft 3.25" thick 3. Nature Shapes 7'6" 2.5" thick (this my short board yo!)
Gotcha, something like my Flashback Fish or a more traditional Fish would be a good shorter option, maybe even a Mini-Simmons if you're into that type of shape. You can go really short with either as long as you got some foam under chest. The full nose / tail will help on the mush days. As far as a longer board, it's pretty much fail proof on those, just a matter of preference. I'm really digging the performance LB I , it goes in anything practically and is very nimble with some juice behind it. Steep drops, no problem, turns on a dime, can get on the nose and everything. It's my new pride and joy but my Coil is still my go-to when the waves are good.
I hear ya. I'm tempted to just stock a quiver full of fat grovelers and longboards. But, there are those days...like 10 times a year or something in NJ, when a groveler will spin-out or be too fast, and a longboard will not do the right justice to an overhead buttery wave. gotta have a good wave board in the quiv.
Fitz, I am assuming you are benching about 475lbs on heavy days, right? ha ha I have to say, between the bench off's and the 23footers, they have been 2 consistant, never get old, jokes!
6'1 190- go to board is 6'2 Roberts white diamond 38 liters of foam. i use it for mostly all conditions here in nj except waist high and under.
I'm 13 1/2 stones, 1.8 m tall, and I ride a million dollar 14 foot douche canoe. I love it so much that my wavestorm quiver is just collecting dust.
WOW! this makes me think i can shave off 2 inches on my shortboards since i like less length on my boards. Insane how short your boards are compared to your height weight
I'm in my 40's 5'7" 160. i don't know about fit but i can surf and do so alot so i'm fit were it counts. i can run a couple miles but my knees and shins rather i didn't and i would be shot for days . i surfed all aftrenoon yesterday into the evening with hardly a break and had enough gas for this morning. board lengths range from 5'9" to 9'2". I have alot of different board shapes for differnt waves and differnt surfing. alot like dozens. i never get rid of boards even when they are unsurfable. i hoard them. On a head high + good swell I might ride a 5'9"quad thing, 6'2" HPSB, a 6'3" 70's style board, or a longboard. its dependent on where I'm surfing, tide and wind, and what kind of surfing i feel like doing. sometimes i want to drop in late, hustle and smash, sometimes i want to get in early and carve or cruise through sections. forget dimensions. start collecting a bunch of different style boards. free your mind.
You prob have an air horn on that douche canoe so when you come barreling down the line, you don't have to yell, huh? HA HA
It's actually registered with the coast guard, Le Douche of Rudee Inlet. I just yell at them through the speaker of the VHF radio.
5'9 165lbs Go tos: 5'10 quad (erryday)and 6'4 thruster (considerably overhead) want to get a 6'2 wide boy somewhere in there also have bigger wave boards: 6'10 7'4 9'0 and 10'0 8'0 wavestorm and 9'4 longboard handplanes and surf matt
just sold a couple boards because my job/financial situation is sketchy. I'm 6'/180 lbs. All I have right now is a 5'11" Lost V2 Stub and a 5'8" Couch Potato. I bought them before Lost posted their volume calculator and I guessed a little too large. Ideally, both boards should be, at least, one size smaller...but they work.
gotta go w/ what you're comfortable w/. both sub-6ft boards are in the 34L vicinity & the 6'4" is prob. around 32L or so. i've found that's my happy zone...anything more or less than that feels either too boaty or too sinky.
