Knew it was a bad sign when I arrive to the beach at 7am this morning and every parking spot was empty. Got on to the beach. Not one person in the water. Granted, it was 3 hours after high tide and the dropping tide was killing the surf, but I still groveled in some knee-waist, clean lines. Was very surprised to be the only person out the whole time. I know everyone is waiting for the high tide this afternoon, but I dunno, I am hoping there is swell left later today. Felt weak sauce this morning for sure. The period was down to 12-13 seconds over night. That will probably help the situation later today. Made the low tide lines makeable.
More than you can imagine! Late yesterday afternoon the spot we were at literally dropped by a couple feet in about an hour as the tide dropped from dead high to mid tide outgoing.
some ofthe forecast models have this thing going back down the african coast. what are the chances it does a loop d loop giving us another go at it? Ever happen before?
Interesting though. I would assume the dry air and conditions it will pass through will kill it off, but I supposed if it had the wherewithal to make it back in full swing, it would be the Cat 5 hurricane from hell and we will all be hoping it stays 1000 miles offshore again.
perfect storm in 90 or 91 did a loop de loop, it was a tropical system that merged with a front, if my 13 year old self remembers correctly
wow you are correct, some models are picking up a loop, even NHC has it moving east then due south.. http://my.sfwmd.gov/sfwmd/common/images/weather/plots/storm_06.gif http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/143500.shtml?5day#contents meanwhile, could be a low system develop off the east coast...
got more today. went to a SECRET SPOT which was crowded (go figya) was patient; took my time, got 5 or 6 nice rides. its another in the win column.
Yah. Wouldn't that be crazy. It will be on same latitude as south carolina on Monday as a depression. Wonder if it could regenerate. Let's watch. Remember in 2004 when Jeanne did a 180 and made a beeline for Florida.
Alberto in 2000 was one that did a huge slow loop and almost followed the same path that Eduoard is following. We got smallish long period swell from Alberto for a solid week, pulsing as it got close once, and then again a week later. Fun times.....swell forecasting was pretty different back then....even in 2000. Far enough away from the coast it wasn't hyped, but there was clean waist - chest high waves a bunch of days in a row.
I think I found some of the best waves of the swell. there were some better ones but these lefts were amazing and long and ripable. this was taken an hour before dark when the east winds that came in later in the day died off it was also probably the peak of the swell. this one was cool from this morning. if you look close on the inside and outside you can see guys surfing for size reference.
well, this one was a big old skunk-a-roo for me. i had no time to travel and find a part of NJ that was working, much to my dismay. it would have only been a 1/2 hour ride for me, but i couldn't squeeze it in. let's hear it for this weekend's supposed windswell! I love windswell. so much more reliable, kinda.
Yeah that's what I'm hype about some medium period windswell. The windswell we got a month or so ago was better then all cane swells IMO and mondays looking nice!
omg lol, it does look like eduardo is considering making a Uturn and perhaps taking a second chance at sending us better waves than the first round! not.
