Your fin or someone elses?

Few broken toes. A terrible staph infection another time. Bumps and bruises otherwise.

 

Got stabbed by my fin in the foot surfing pre Gloria swell. Doc sewed it up with sand and sea monkeys still in it. Got gangrene and a muscle and artery cut out. Sealed it up with a 2x4 slab of skin from between my belt line and crotchous region. Out 3 months.
Then ten years later I got stabbed in the bottom of my other foot by a board with kelp cutting fins. Who needs little knives attached on the bottom of their board in Veebee. out 3 weeks.

 

Never had a bad injury in 30 years until I pulled a hamstring on a backside (Carolina) cutback. Took almost a year to recover. I've been stretching a lot more since then.

I broke my hip skating. Then went surfing too early after the second surgery and broke it again. Here we are 4 surgeries later.

 

Damn Dune. You idiot. I did that this past summer with my achilles tendon and learned my lesson, no skating for months. Recovery time is vital.

Surfwise, I've been pretty lucky. Once my fin sliced through the top of my left foot; could have used stitches but no health insurance = tape and a sandal for a few weeks.

Got denied on a HH/OH day in Argentina this past summer, I was trying to power through a wave with a board way too large ad caught that board to the face... at least I didn't let it go. Thought I broke my nose for the second time, but there was only a little bit of blood. Still, it hurt for weeks.

Baddy my nose has been altered also- only by a skateboard. 50-50 kickflip out, landed on tail as I crouched forward, stomped the board right into the bridge of my nose. That time is was like a f*ckin faucet, just pouring blood.

 

two broken ribs falling on the board in piddly 3' surf. landed right on the rail the board was an epoxy board with zero give and it was a on in a brazillion chance, but the stars aligned.

 

Worst surfing injury???...... Im not sure. The dislocated shoulder was inconvenient. Cracked rib made breathing hurty. Eating it and having a board hit my back and ending up with a lump that looked like I had half a baseball sticking out of my lower back pretty much blew. Reef cuts sown shut with fishing string wasnt fun. That time a crab grabbed my toe and wanted a fight wasnt cool. The concussions (Im use to from skating). I guess they are all on equal level.

Yeah. The broken chest bone (sternal fracture) seems to be kinda popular. My bud Paulie had one of those a couple of months ago. Heard it pop out in the surf. Kinda like the cracking your knuckles sound, but lower pitch. He's almost completely recovered. Didn't miss much surfing, because it's been flat here. On a positive note, "chest boning" was added to the SI glossary as a result (DPSup and or Manisses I think). Every cloud has a silver lining.

 

Wait, you mean, Paulie, the accused SJB guy? Haven't heard from him in a while...... ???

 

He got tired of being mistaken for SJB, and bailed. Too old and tired for the arguements. Yup, that Paulie. Chest boning was pretty funny though.

I was admitted to Bayside Hosp and they l left me there for 3 days to rot. I got my senses together enough to get a buddy to come get me. While I was laid up before going to Norfolk General, my dog walked by my foot, sniffed, and left out the most pitiful howl.

 

Surf - Broken Jaw from a loose board while pitted, almost knocked me out made my ears ring but when I hit the 42 degree water I came right to life. Broken nose , got hit by my own board. Once I went over the falls and I was thankful that I came down on my upside down board just off center enough to slice my butt cheek instead of my butthole 8 stiches for that.

Snow n Skate- Torn achillies, cracked eyesocket, dislocated shoulder, 2 broken ribs.

 

I got yelled at in the lineup and it hurt my feelings. My feelings were really banged up for a few months.
