Call me stupid or just plain lazy, but I don't seem to be smart enough to properly use the search feature of the forum. So I'm starting a surf related thread that I'm sure has been well talked about. Up here in the northeast, water temps can change from warm to cold in a matter of days. I don't usually strip off all my old wax just because of a slight water temp change. I will usually just apply a little more or run a quick wax comb over it. However, it seems that most of the wax brands I have tried are not cutting it for me. Half way through a session I don't feel like I'm getting the grip I need. Not necessarily when standing and riding the wave, but for paddling and hand grip, the waxes I have used all seem to flatten out and lose nearly all friction with my body. It makes for some annoying board positioning under my chest from time to time. Or even the dreaded slip off/pearl, which makes me feel dumb. I have used quite a few. I did get my hands on a bar of wax that I am told a lot of the Brazzos use, which was I believe a bar of sex wax that was super tacky. Have not been able to get any more of it. I think it needs to be ordered on line. It was almost so tacky it made my finger tips and toes hurt. Who has some other good wax recommendations? Let the hate ensue
sounds to me like you're just using the wrong temp. grade wax (ie: using warm water wax instead of cool or cold). hard wax (like warm water) gets even harder when you put it in colder water than it's meant for, & that = more slippage than you'd normally get.
From my own personal experience the Brazilians tend to prefer hot wax that you slop all over your privates so you can be more aesthetically pleasing during sexy time.
I agree, it is more often than not, using a wax that is meant for a different water temp. I guess the real question is, anyone have use anything that stays sticky in a wider variety of water temps. I already use a wax comb when warranted, and I do keep my toenails long.. but not on purpose. Sometimes if it gets too out of control and the woman makes me cut them, I will cut them off perfectly and leave them somewhere she will find them, like the dresser. I have been using Jimbo's cake wax the past few sessions. Smells great, works ok
i was gifted a bar of FU wax recently & have been using it this last run of swell. all i can say is that i no longer have any leg hair on my inner thighs.
sticky bumps @ the right temp or it flakes off or glasses over...it's all about the temp...and i've found different waxes work better at different seasons/temps...but overall, sticky bumps
This stuff is my go to. Tried it out at a local shop years ago and haven't been able to find it in person anywhere... Ordered a bunch online for like a buck a bar and it is by far the best wax I have ever used. Holds up well throughout a session(s), rarely needs to be reapplied, perfect "tackiness" between being hard/soft, oh and smells better than any other wax too
Stick a bar under the cuff of your wrist sleeve or in the pocket of your boardies. That being said I never have wax. I just kinda deal... Also not exactly sure what your issue is??? You can stand fine but your having issues when laying down???? What do you mean hand grip????
I meant to bring this up before... Lately, it seems like the waxes are not quite as good as they have been. I discussed this with others as well. I assumed it had something to do with the weather. Perhaps bad batches of wax have been sent to VB??? I was out on some of the NE days last couple of weeks and just totally slipped out where I would not have. Using mostly warm water wax and the water is 75, air is 70-80
Sticky bumbs in the right temp is key... take into account outside temp. In jersey it'll be cool water temp but 90 outside therefore my wax will melt before I even get to the water.. just buy all ranges of waxes and test it out its only like 95 cents for sticky bumps... besides the point **** sex wax.. idk what kinda sex that dude has but I can imagine it's the type of sex makes fat birches turned off. his sh*t bag wax never sticks to my boards, pretty impossible to rub it on it pretty much smears all over
I was die hard sticky bumps for years. Then I switched to palmers a two years ago and haven't looked back since.
