Sic early 90s alterna-pop band! Great show too.

Anywayz, we seem to be often discussing the societal role/norms of the surfer. Dependent or independent of your surfing, do you bros feel your development has been arrested in any way? Do those around you feel so? If yes, is surfing a cause or effect (or both) of your arrested development? Discuss.

Quite the opposite. Surfing gave me my "development" back.

I experienced this when I got married and wife had no interest in going to the beach. (don't ask) Divorce can be a wonderful thing! Now i'm back to 19 footers and curl off's (Delaware). HA HA This summer has been the most I have been in the water in years and I realized just how much I missed it!

Word. We're liberated brahs. F all dat progression/development according to our dominant cultural paradigms.

I'm obviously of the school of thought that this riding waves thing is beyond simple fun/sporting.

Working with teenagers all day has definitely arrested my development... My son got me into surfing. I don't think I'll ever grow up; nor do I want to.

Although surfing has become a big and beneficial part of my life, I sometimes need to remind myself that there are other aspects and priorities in life than surfing. Family responsibilities of course should be at the top of the list.
Prior to taking up surfing two years, I had other activities in which I was involved. Filipino Martial arts and playing the banjo were two of them. I have done little of either in the past two years. And there were other things I had wanted to do: taking up a new musical instrument, learning Spanish, refreshing myself on the years of German I took years ago, and painting - as in landscapes. One might consider these self development activities. I think the key and the challenge here is to find a balance, better manage one's free time - including less time watching TV or on the computer in the evenings.

I believe its definitely expanded my horizons, my wife and kids however think I'm obsessed. We will have to agree to disagree.
