Who works in sales?

If that's what you believe about your employees, maybe the problem is you don't hire the right people and know how to lead them. I'm good at what I do (sys admin), I work hard, and I'm known for getting it done right and on time. But I'd rather work at McD's than work for someone with that attitude.

That attitude is one of the things wrong with the world, people at the top thinking everyone below is them is inferior and thus deserves to be treated like crap. Gonna go have some single malt with the Koch bros?

It was for real. I have been short on gainful employment, but not because the waves have been plentiful. That has just been a fortunate coincidence. In case you are really curious, I also have healthcare through the ACA.

Not judging here (regarding being unemployed), but man you sure have a lot to say about others employment choices (sales) when you don't have a job yourself. I like you Slashdog, but you are speaking out of turn I believe. When you are a working productive member of society I think your opinions will have more merit.

Not trying to start an argument with you, just thought it was interesting that you are very vocal on this subject, yet don't have a pot to piss in. No crucifixion here, just pointing out something that you may not have thought about. It's like people who have all the answers regarding politics but they aren't even a registered voter. Yes. One of the key problems with economic reform is this; absolute value doesn't exist. Especially in a globalized economy, where the parts are designed, produced, assembled, and sold all in different countries, each with their own economies. We can't go back to the manufacturer centered economy that Salt mentions because it is impossible. Economies today are inextricably linked to technology, which 'evolves' faster than our ability to control it.

In Norway gasoline costs $10.75 a gallon and a beer is $10. But they have one of the highest standards of living in the world. A preschool teacher makes 70K. Inseminate the Norwegians!

You find this a lot in many parts of Europe. Less time working, higher prices for goods, and higher quality of life. Switzerland is very similar to Norway.

 

So you're saying that you're "not judging" me, I "don't have a pot to piss in," and my opinions currently hold less value. You shouldn't veil your judgment, but if you do, please get a thicker veil.

The fact that I didn't go to work today doesn't mean that I can't contribute to a debate.

Trust me, I have thought about this. I believe my record for someone capable of thought is well established. Rest assured, I look at my own situation in great detail. But don't get confused- being a registered voter doesn't make someone knowledgeable about politics, and being a salesman doesn't make them knowledgeable about economics.

I believe you missed my point. I'm not judging you simply because you are unemployed, i'm sure there is good reason for it. Many Americans are out of work, some for good reason, but many are just lazy. But it is a fact you don't have a pot to piss in, you admitted this yourself by saying you were unemployed and running out of money, I didn't make that up, so it's not a judgement on my part, it's an observation.

Again, my point is that if you don't have a job currently then you should probably stay out of a debate about jobs. It's like making fun of someone for the crappy car they drive, when all you have is a bicycle or a bus pass. Nobody likes a critic. You can criticize from the sidelines all you want, because this here is MERICA, and it's freedom of speech.

I was just trying to help you out is all. I'm sure you are well educated and are capable of forming many opinions and can keep up in a debate just fine. exactly. it's an iPad. does everyone need the next generation awesome-sauce gadget? no. we are taking advantage of 3rd world labor to obtain 1st world gadgets for the masses. they all wind-up in a garbage heap anyway after 3 years.
