Bought back a board I sold on CL just now. Late 1990s 6'5'' CB bonzer tri fin. Reunited and it feel so good. I want to take the 3 fin and make it a quad as it is my step-up. Can I do this on my own and what should I know? Whats the best fin setup for bigger days. Gracias.
for anyone wanting to see pics of the board's knifey outline.... tail pad is trash too. http://baltimore.craigslist.org/spo/4690848862.html
It's in great shape. Always regretted selling it since it was purely for paying bills that month a year ago and since I can't afford a new CB Bonzer (a real one). Since I always ride quads and hate tri fins, I want to install some fcs plugs but again, have never done this and can't find much on fin templates for semi gun type boards. I remember a guy with a hayden started a thread where he installed future boxes and it turned out great.... searched the forum and didn't see anything.
exactly. they did some of them through the '90s, but abandoned the project. he'd be better off converting it to a proper bonzer 5 than a quad. gonna be a ***** fitting plugs into the concaves & not ****ing it all up.
Thought the thread died.... always wanted a proper bonzer but the bottom concaves on this board are not the same as a 5 or a 3 fin from what I've seen. I love the feeling of a quad but have been looking at the tail a little closer and feel there might be too much v out the back for a step-up quad...thinking this may make it too loose? Also it's a moonlight glass job so I dont want to mess with it and totally blow it. 50/50 on the conversion now. I think anyone would pick the board up for 160 regardless. It's a CB board. classic. ; )
doesn't matter. people have been putting the fin set up on non-campbell boards that don't necessarily have the bottom contours for decades & getting good results. i've heard from a reliable source that the CB "pod" model is based on a CI MSF that someone had bonzer-ized & liked better, so had malcolm shape a freshie w/ the full bonzer system.
I was just replying to your statement that it would be difficult to add fcs fin plugs in with bonzer contours. This board doesn't have as deep of contours to deal with that another bonzer would so not as tough of a job as you mentioned it would be. I think it would be easier to add a few plugs than totally overehaul the thing into a 5 finner. But thanks for your input.
hey i'll say it again. thats a nice board in good shape. Looks like it was shaped to be a thruster for quality waves. you might be Making a mistake changing it to a quad. something about the tail. like its to narrow or something. if that the case you would have to move up the front fins too. You should try and make it a widow maker. Put a big center fin box and use small side fins all almost aligned with each other. I never surfed one but from what i've read it puts a deeper shade a soul in your surfing but you can still get the qualitys you want out of a thruster when you need it like when you're steep and deep. just a thought.
