Were U ever Regulated in Lineup?

are u guys surfing in Compton or something,everyone makes these "locals" seem like the hells angels or something,every surfer I ever encountered in the wild was just like me ,a happy stupid burnout,that occasionally says "sup."im not too scared of being harassed by the rumson gangbangers,or the red bank angels.the thing that worries me the most surfing and going to the beach is stepping on a dirty needle or a tampon with aids blood on it.if someone did try to regulate me,il go warren g on they azz

I more or less try to avoid confrontation nowadays not out of self preservation, but because I don't want someone fcking with my car when I'm in the water. I didn't care so much when I had my beater truck, but I have a fairly decent car that I don't want being touched.

 

Even state park beaches have regulars that live far more local than the travelers looking for a wave. Even on beach breaks with shifting sandbars each year, certain spots can be populated by 90% regulars who recognize an outsider as they walk up the beach towards "the" spot. I hear that all the time "it's a state park, no body owns it" makes it easy to discount the people who are there year round.

 

I was yanked off my board once by some d-bag. I did drop in on him, but it was because he kept paddling around me. So I figured f it I was waiting and he snaked me, so I dropped in on him. He had 4 buddies with him to my 1. It was in nor-cal off the beaten path. So I was just as local as him. He just had more friends there than I did.

Another time Some fat older guy in a bright green wetsuit in Santa Cruz tried to regulate after paddling to the wrong side of the peak last time I was there. So basically he have me the right of way, but when I started paddling for the wave he says 'Don't even try it' and goes for the wave. I was from out of town and freezing my a$$ off so I just let him have it. Plus the s.c locals will fight and I wasn't really lookin to do that.

 

Im more scared of walking across Gunnison than any surfers or surf crews around here. Id rather fist fight who ever than see too much there.

 

lol funny story thinking about it,i got regulated by an old nude guy at Gunnison for trying to hook my boy up with his ugly swinging wife.only time iv been regulated,he said he was gonna break my nose,i moved towards the lifeguards out of his sight.it was hilarious and scary at the same time.

 

when i was about 10-11 i was messing around on the inside during a 4 foot day (because i was too scared to catch any set waves). the owner of a local surf shop was up and riding and almost hit me. he came over to me and very politely told me to stay out of the inside or else i'll get hurt. so i manned up and paddled to the lineup. it soon became one of the most memorable sessions of my life. i did my first ever cutback (barely), and pulled into my first ever tube while surfing. i got closed out, but it was pretty monumental for me at the time.

and most of the jersey locals are skinny little 5'11" 170 ib twerps anyways. but the dudes that consider them hardcore locals are more scummy then scary. im on the same page as you I don't have a great car but my jeeps my babe and ive seen some *****ed **** in Asbury. im talking a brick being dropped through a window and some guy taken his fins to the side of a guys car. **** fuc*ing with someones property come fuc* with me you lil twerp berch

had a guy at jerks paddle battle me for a wave then 5 minutes later he told me "we surf in a lineup here bro"...it was winter...there were 9 people out....3 on the jetty...me ..him...another guy...didnt even drop in on him...just jersey guys being salty for no goddam reason.....

saw another bodyboarder at jerks 2 summers ago paddle right out and drop in on a "visiting surfer" right off the bat on a set wave...just looked at him and snaked him...then came up telling the guy he dropped in on to fight or leave....just jersey guys being salty for no dam reason

 

The key is to act completely unhinged. Work up a slight eye twitch, start barking at random people in the lineup or talk to yourself. No one will mess with you. Works 60% of the time every time.

 

Or mid sentence, drop "I'll ****ing cut you" without blinking. Enjoy the rest of the day without a peep from the peanut gallery. The prospect of tangling with a stabby person I suspect will end any tough guy bravado.

Truth. I have a bit of tourrettes when good sets aren't coming in so I'm sure that's nice and uninviting. My favorite was in Laguna when a local talked schitt and I stared right through him. Right through his dome. After he paddled back following a ride 5 minutes later he apologized for being aggro and blamed it on the waves, which were actually good that day lol. The quiet guy scares people just as much the one cussing to himself and kelp.

 

Is this why we can't have nice things?

There was lots of coke washing ashore back then. Probably just one gulp of saltwater and BOOM! goes the dynamite. Just a theory.

 

My buddy dropped in on someone at the wall once and when he tried to yell at him for it he immediately punched him in the face.

 

It was a machiatto, and it was in the parking lot. They had 750 dollar patagonia suits and custom proctors....i believe neither have seen the water.

Just another day at the wall. Extreme brah. Hold my grande tall ventechino, i'm gonna go start my car.

I did get the "is that an old suit?" look from a few. They were also water gazers with shiny boards that have never hit the water. I'll call them roof ornaments.

For the record, it was a 5 year old rental suit.
