whats your favorite ec shop and why - good selection of boards -clothes - deals - best staff and/or hot sales girls or overall just good vibes. lets here about the worst too hahahah
Anybody remember the skate/surf shop that was in LBI on the blvd. They had a quarter pipe and some other stuff outback! They went out of business around 2000?
Big fan of Natural Art Surf Shop down in Buxton, NC. If I could have a shop of my own this would be my model. Small shop. Surfing to the core. Quality boards being built in a shaping shack on site. Nice people. Even though I don't buy much in surf shops these days I make it a point to stop in there and spend some money every trip down there even if its just to buy a couple of tee shirts. If it ever came up for sale I'd be very interested.
my favorite has got to be cinnamon rainbow in new Hampshire - good selection of inventory along with knowledgeable sales staff . not to mention the chix working there are top shelf
The Longboard House in Indialantic, FL. It is the best and the worst. Super high prices and pushy know it all salesmen. An awesome selection of modern and vintage longboards, fishes, and guns. It's just cool to go in, look at all the candy, and then leave. Maybe buy a bar of wax.
I'm personally so sick of the over-saturation of this industry (I.E. catering to the poser kids and soccer moms rather than actually carrying the surf necessities) that I make my own **** whenever I can, and buy the rest online. I might even be ready to order up a case of wax and tell the whole industry to F off.
my personal favorite shop is surfers supplies in ocean city, super friendly guys that work there and know what they're talking about when it comes to gear. def the kind of place that has a "mom and pop" shop type feel to it versus a corporate vibe sounds like ron jon.
It wasn't the biggest shop...pretty small actually , but Island Style in Sea Bright nj was the place were you could grab a bar of wax , a new wet suit or a board but more importantly run into an old friend , and if you weren't in a hurray maybe someone you knew 20 , 30 or more years ago ...high school surf buddies , some who still surfed , some that quit when " you know ...the job and the kids and the wife...just didn't leave any time for surfing .It was a gathering place as well as a place of business and I miss it . Now it's just another vacant building waiting to be demolished ..thanks SANDY .
2 stripper names does not a surfshop make, but I will check it out since it has top shelf honeys and stripper names
My experience is somewhat limited to far South Jersey, and a few other locales... Back in the 70's, Heritage's "Little Wave Surf Shop" on SIC, NJ was really awesome. I bought my first board there. Open all year, and pretty much the only game in town between Kona in Wildwood and Surfer's Supplies in OCNJ. Surfer's Supplies in OCNJ was (and maybe still is) truly a "Surfer's Shop" especially if you had the pleasure of going in there while George was around. George was awesome. I worked for a few years at SunCatcher in Stone Harbor in the 80s. I like to think that it changed to a "real" surf shop during those years. I love Malibus in OCMD. I've known Lee since he first opened his shop inland in Potomac, MD. When he moved to a Boardwalk location, it was "game on." Great guy, great shop. And props for the previously mentioned Natural Art Surf Shop in Buxton. That is definitely the model. Scott is the coolest, and so is his shop.
You can't talk about surf shops in the Northeast with mentioning Water Brothers... not much wetsuit selection but Sid is still there just about every day and if you don't respect him or what he's done for surfing in the area. Go Google his name... and the surf fest he puts on every year is sick!
I may be biased because he helped me out when he didn't even know me just because he liked what I was trying to do. All around good guy... just my .02
So if I'm going to give my money to a local business I'd rather it be someone who is honest and doesn't guilt you into spending in his shop. It makes me want to spend something just a little bit more I guess..
