I live on the same island as alex so I've surfed with him & ges, hung with them around town, alex gets tattooed at the shop I work at etc etc... they aren't everyones kind of people but they are both funny and talented guys. dark fall is one of my favorite movies to put on... I am biased though... its a wonderfully shot movie about my home town featuring friends and jersey surf/music legends... Me and some buddies attend the premier at golden nugget and let me tell you... I don't care what kind of board you ride, where you ride it, how you ride it etc.. if you love to surf... being in a huge theater with a thousand or so other people just like you and watching guys who are in the audience with you get barreled on a 30 ft screen... everyone screaming and yelling... alex also likes to use heavy droney music in his surf parts which I really like... it was a great experience.
The movie was funny. The surfing was enjoyable. Gessler and the gang were delightful at the premiere. I am pretty much a kook and shared a peak with him once. I just stood on the shoulder and watched as he surfed wave after wave of the jetty, then he motioned to me that the next one was mine. After that it was all good. You give a complement expecting positivity, but sometimes its not there.
Ive Surfed with the Kelly's a bunch of times they're alway polite and respectful in and out of the water . I met Gessler threw a mutual friend once in Heritage and He was was respectful and didn't come off like a **** to me . Everytime he seen me out on the water or checking different spots he was always cool to me . Respect give gets Respect back . Its not just in the surf community for in life in general
Both very true statements, I agree with you guys. And CJsurf, in hindsight I apologize for any hostility yesterday and coming off argumentative. I myself was not having the greatest day yesterday and was in a salty mood because of it. Not good to take it out on someone else on here nor talk poorly of someone who's not here to defend themselves nor have I spend an adequate amount of time with to be judgmental. whoops.
its tough being old what with the youthful vernacular....so.....here goes nothing: 1) what is a hipster? 2) why do they deserve to die? 3) is the movie about surfing?
1. You'll know it when you see one. 2. Once you've encountered one you'll understand why. 3. I think its a mockumentary based on a local fellow who went from ripping surfer to NYC socialite. There are two surfers that come to mind who took the path being mocked in the movie and its gotta be based on one or the other or a composite of both. I could be wrong but it seems pretty freaking blatant. Lot of very good surfing in the movie by the way. Movie is really good. Not your typical surf flick. Only criticism would be some of the language which had me squirming watching with my groms.
