omg, ebola in us

Heard some one recently say this - "the ebola virus is spreading on virus time, 2000, 4000, 8000, 16k, - we are responding in programmed, beurocratic, and political time." This makes a ton of sense. I really think ebola is going to be a VERY big deal throughout the entire world. I'm a very optimistic guy, but when you really think about how it spreads and the possibility of exposure prior to diagnosis.... I think the government and media are downplaying the potential risk dramatically.

What media have you been watching? All I have seen is Ebola Ebola Ebola panic! The government is taking it as seriously as they can. Remember, they have to control the small cases without causing the kooks to lose it over government control.

Brewengineer, it is quite refreshing to see a fellow skeptic and firm believer in the scientific method. The daily interactions I have with most people are quite disheartening sometimes. It really amazes me how far we have come to understanding things about the natural world and how so many people have so little faith in the evidence. I have conversations with people about various topics and say well here, look at the evidence, and people just write it off. I have had people say "Why do you always need evidence?", and that question truly does scare me. It is truly a sorrowful thing when people put their trust in actors or what have you, with absolutely no credentials whatsoever, over an overwhelming mountain of evidence that science has provided. As one of my favorite quotes goes, "Keep an open mind, but not so open that your brains fall out." Keep the science my friend!

Yep, I am a week person for not fearing the government.

Irrational fear of government control, in a time when public health could actually be at risk, is just insanity. If the government were so good at controlling the people, there wouldn't be thousands of whiny tea partiers blasting out over different media sources.

 

I love a good debate, and there is no doubt I love science. I get tired of presenting data, only to have it refused because the people who think they are open minded also refuse to trust any sources that have any link to federal funding. Conspiracy theorists in general are just ignorant cowards. The lack understanding of very basic things, and allow that to lead to anger and fear. In real life, I break my fair share of laws, and think half of the elected politicians are idiots. However, the government still has reputable scientific agencies that produce independently peer reviewed data. Also, when you have so many studies that agree on a theory, it is hard to ignore that as current fact. Of course, fact can change over time, but only with new and verifiable evidence.

 

I'm glad you guys are working hard to change the world and find the cure for the human condition in dis tread lol

Helo Brew, this is off topic, but since we are talking science, i'm just curious about your opinion on 9/11. i'm not looking for any debate or claiming any inside job shyt, but the official story presented by the govt does not line up with science in many areas.

our data set is small, 80K years max on pollen grains found in lake beds, maybe 100,000 years max on looking at carbon and oxygen isotopes found in ice cores....our ACTUAL REAL (not surmised/interpreted) data is even smaller, less than 200 years

obviously releasing carbon compounds at the current rate is unsustainable, however to say you can draw a causation (not just correlation) is not truthful, at all.

Photosynthesis has been around, what, 3.3-3.4 billion years old? maximum, with 1 billion minimum? sequestration of carbon took a billion years plus to bring us to AD 1500's levels of co2 in atm and locked in crust as fossil fuels.


cue industrial revolution few hundred years ago, we are spending the sequestrated carbon like drunken sailors

this 100000+ orders of magnitude difference in sequestration/release cant be good. at all. but to say you have definitive proof is foolhardy

the climate has cycles and goes through changes that we have no idea about, some of them are longer than recorded human history.....what makes you think we have all the data we need to be accurate?

its called having faith, you believe, despite having limited data, you expect it to be correct, but it might not be, you are locking your belief in the current political dogma

remember Alfred Wegner? he first proposed continental drift/plate tectonics...no one believed him as they didnt have the data needed to see he was right.

What official story? Every truther theory has been debunked. We had this conversation earlier on here, no need to go back into it. Now, I have no opinion on whether or not the gov had a connection to the hijackers. There is no way to really prove either way. This thread is about Ebola, so I am not sure why we would discuss 9/11 again. We might as well just start talking about chemtrails at this point.

 

Just like I thought. You would ignore massive amounts of data and research, just because we don't have 100% proof. You are the one with faith, because you sure as hell aren't using data. Again, I don't believe you have a degree in science.

plenty of data, its just a bit short there buddy. if you had one or two studies that spanned multiple climatic cycles, it be more convincing, its like you measured the first few inches of an elephant trunk, and called it a snake
