Jimmy Slade says yes. http://stabmag.com/is-surfing-ready-for-a-brazilian-world-champ-is-that-question-racist/
I think this website is a reasonable pool of sample data and opinions on the matter. And the answer to that question is NO. But the article articulated it well. The world also wasn't "ready for a black president"... It happened and life moves on.... The only thing that we can hope for, is that this lights a fire underneath a lot of the young US and Aussie talent that is just making it through heats and collecting checks... Not sure what the Brazzos are eating and drinking, other than their own hyped up koolaide, but whatever it is, its working. Maybe its just that scappy, third world country nature, where they have to fight for a meal on their plate, much less becoming a pro surfer. So, while these guys are surfing every single day into the darkness of night, the SoCal lifestyle pros are all checking the forecast and saying, ohh thats not good enough. Ill surf next week when there are waves. Let me get back to snap chatting. The brazzos, if nothing more are hungry. very, very hungry. And they don't have food on their plates... Looks like they are about to take the biggest turkey leg from Kelly at Thankgiving. And Kelly better sit there and like it. Ugh.
no dont even say it! Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse..... For the love of all thats good and holy lock and end this thread now, dont even discuss it

absolutely YES. its about time we had a Brazzo world champ. it makes the world tour that much more exciting. honestly I don't understand all the hate towards them. don't get me wrong, ive encountered them clogging up line ups in my travels and their loud aggressive nature. but ive also made some good friends with some who gone on to be great travel companions, taking me in to their circle and sharing good times and great waves. honestly though the rudest lamest surfers I ever came across were some French dudes in Costa Rica. full on arrogant self entitling pricks with no regard to anyone else in the water.
when i first met a group of brasileros - at the time tom curren was 'IN" and 'cruisey' style surfing complete w/head nod was IN STYLE - they thought that was stupid - the reason i liked them and gravitated toward them was - i was embarassed by my fellow americans and their stupo surfing habits. i wanted to surf like THEM (the brazzos) and not a lame californian.
Man all you dudes that follow the ASP would LOVE this, even zach. Maybe dem Frenchmen Archy encountered knew Savate. #SacreBleau4Lyfe
