From a skaters perspective...... not impressed. 95% of airs that surfers do are garbage. But from a purely surfing perspective, it was cool. Though I am looking forward to the days when they pull legit 540's at mackin Pipe or BIG Chopes. All you guys that just surf and dont skate but are into airs and flipsy doodles, do yourself and your surfing a favor and start skating. Skaters do make better surfers hands down no debate.

It's a little more difficult to launch an air and land it on a ramp that's moving...

Granted there are more moving variables with waves but I still stand by what I say. Especially in regards to the pro levels.
Airs on waves however, in my opinion are easier to do on days head hi and bigger. I can still blast airs skating and surfing(landing airs in white water does not count. Ever.) and I am in my 40's. Not bragging or talking trash, Im just stating that cause I feel it does give me a certain amount of clout in regards to my original statement.

technically it's a 720 since he rode away normal stance...unless you don't count the revert at the end as part of trick

there's nothing "air reverse" about it. It's a 540, maybe 720 if you count the revert in the foam

If they consider it a 540, then his fins were forward in the landing, making it a 540 air reverse. If you consider that last rotation after he landed, then yes, its a frontside 720. Splitting hairs. I don't like any technical term for airs. It either looks awesome of they don't. I will grab any part of the board that seems like the easiest place to take hold. Couldn;t tell you what it is after that. Stalefish, fakey. Who knows. I am not a skater, so I don't know any of those terms.

Its still badass and a lot more difficult on a moving and changing wave than on a stationary ramp

Finally, someone on here who actually knows something about surfing and how totally easy it is. We've been waiting for a shredster who possesses such epic talent. Bro, I think you're the chosen one. We submit to your triumphant reign over all kookdom.

Bullsh*t! I've known many good skaters that can't surf worth a sh*t as well as many surfers who can't skate well. Not knocking skaters but surfing & skating are different animals.

Surfing and skating(throw snowboarding in there too) are different animals but still related. We all know surfing gave rise to skating and now skating is/has been giving back to surfing. Sure there are plenty of skaters that cant surf and vice versa but the skaters who actually do surf are just better. there are plenty of them. And on a pro surfing level, the guys(mostly younger at this point) that do skate will and have stated that skating has made them better at surfing.
I stand by my statement. Everyone else can kneel and bow down unto thee!

dude, common. skaters for the most part are pencil neck, cig smoking, tricksters. the stuff they do is mindblowing, no doubt. however, it does not compare to the dynamics of surfing at the Jimmy Slade level.

You are right its not skating but where did the 540 come from? You can honestly debate that skating has not influenced surfing especially when talking about airs?
Salt, you most know a bunch of little kids who skate street ramps and hand railings.
I have a point. Made it, stand by it. Over it. Have fun with the rest of the thread. Maybe I will chime in again just throw gas on the fire.
