So this is my first time posting on here, I usually remain in 'read only' mode but recent episodes involving surf etiquette and ignorance, lack of awareness, self entitlement, and down right stupidity have forced me to throw my hat into the SI forum ring. Up until a few months ago I typically never surfed any further north than Asbury Park(8th ave), recently I decided to make the trek to the other side of the north jetty into Deal beach territory (or Loch Arbor...I never get it right? And I am a local). Anyway, and in a nutshell, WTF is it with the people in this lineup who refuse to make any effort to move for an oncoming surfer, and I don't mean drop ins, I mean those ass clowns who continue to bob up and down on their boards right in your line of fire, making no attempt to clear the path???? IDK, maybe its me, maybe @ 42 years of age Ive grown a little cranky, even so, I still have yet to say anything as I like to keep mellow but its just baffling to me?

Trust fund kids that couldn't get out of dodge?

"Hurricane Swells" bring out the worst of people if this is recent. Only core surfers go out in 2-4 @ 14 seconds...they don't owe you anything and you owe them everything.

Yes recent, it can really, really test your patience when you are driving down the line only to have one (or several) of these self entitled 'trust funders' just sit there motionless with the expectations that you are to move......not them of course! Ive had two separate occassions now where I simply fell back and shot my board out in front of me, kind of my way of being suttle but making a statement at the same time. It's just a real shame for all of us who surf year round, and have certain windows of opportunity to abide by whether due to being on kiddie duty, wife, family obligations, and let's not forget work, to ultimately have our sessions wasted. A simple, 'sorry', 'my fault', and/or lamo attempt at getting out of the way would be more than enough for me? Nothing. Its the general attitude of society today in my opinion, a saying an old friend of mine had...."horray for me, fu#! You"!

the first spot I checked had about 60 people out.i seen a dude drop in on another dude and nearly run over 30 people inside the shorebreak.so I went to check another spot.the one thing that really grinds my gears is having other people I do not know, especially out of towners following me to paddle out.people see me with my boards and think oh this guy knows where the good spots are.i doubt these crowds are going to die down, lucky I found a new little empty secret spot today that theres no parking and u have to walk a mile down the beach to get to the sand bank.

sitting here watching the EC cams watching you guys score over there...then opened up the 'Squan camera. I wouldn't wish that crap on my worst enemy. Looks like a bunch of fleas on a dog. People just blatantly shutting each other down. Looks as bad as Malibu, but about 200 yards shorter.

Don't fret buoys, it's gonna get cold soon...and the kooks will dwindle.

    Looking forward to it.

Almost took out a horizontal floater this AM. You know, the ones that use their board as a flotation device, most of their body in the water, eating the rail of their softie on every wave that runs them over. Solid candidates for darwin, even when I was greener than a leprechaun I was bright enough to sit on the board and stay face out and gtfo of the way.

Good news is they're back to drinking overpriced coffee in the generic jazz playing quazay hipster cafe with their liberal arts philosophy student friends.

I used to loathe it, but I'm beginning to welcome winter with open arms for reasons other than snowboarding. hopefully today was the final lineup ****show we all encounter until summer. Tomorrow will drop under 55, which means the softies will be back at said cafe sipping some pumkinspice****amochalatte telling war stories of fighting the triple OH (3ft) monsters at 'the wall'.

I do think lessons would solve a lot of this, saving us all a headache.

Nope. Late to the party. You sound like that dude reliving his glory days at the bar of his football career in high school, at age 42, 60lbs overweight. Let it go. You lost man. I stuck with it. I'm out in the water as much as anyone else on this forum, surfing garbage and decent stuff, not giving a **** about weather or temperature, looking forward to winter. I have a halfway decent quiver for my skill level. Only thing I don't have is a winter suit, partially due to the fact that it isn't winter yet. Would you buy a set of snowtires in July?

Just let it go. I'm still at it. Might drive you crazy, but there actually isn't a Damn thing you can do about it. Find another 'kook', there isn't one here anymore. Just look at the new registration list of people, or new people to the sport posting for advice from seasoned guys. Eff up their thread. I'm sure you won't look like a **** and your crew of cheerleaders will high five you "yeah man you got him, cool man". You'll be the best speaker in the illegal immigrant English class, or the best ice skater in Mexico.

Funny thing about out of towners from kookville is not only will they follow you out, they never seem to do their own research (forecast check, spot check) and paddle out under their own will power/judgement call. Prime example, I plan on paddling out tomorrow with a buddy, fully aware that the swell will have faded, but its gonna be clean with strong offshores so certain spots may still offer up some little fun ones. Not to mention air temp in the 50', but with that said mark my words, all it takes is one kook to drive up while we're out there, or maybe pass us by enroute and notice our boards! Never fails..

*quasi. Good thing you've got that science degree, student boy.

Is it really time to be running your mouth when you were holding that same soft top only two months ago?

I was in Asbury today, checked the l jetty, this other spot that is pretty much identical to trestles(trail walk up, mini cliff, etc) and boy oh boy do you locals up there not no surf etiquette either. Not to mention you numbfarts that are old and out of shape as sh!t and sit way outside then paddle your jiggly man boobs off only too snowball the real shredders that sit just off the sand bar. you sit so far outside and miss everywave and fuk everyone else up cause A) you guys are afraid to be where the wave breaks B) "tryna chase some mavericks bro"... no disrespect but you don't realize how much of an annoyance old out of shape people are (not calling you out of shape) but every dinkleberry 50+ dude there was a kook not to mention again you all were riding longboards when it was overhead, sucking up and peeling and no one of you could make any sort of entry

btw not sticking up for the idiots that sit inside and just watch you as you scream down the line cause they can go suck a nipple too

Almost only counts in horseshoes, grenades and nuclear warfare, brahhhhh

When can we all join your elite creme de la creme surf academy? We've always wanted to be instructed by a world-class surfboard appraiser.

How profound it was for you to have experienced the divinity of bypassing any recognizable period of kookery. You truly made the longboard nose round. It was square before your arrival bro! Well done, WCS. Well done.

Bro, btw, I'm out in SoCal again this week. Not quite in IB but further up towards Seal. Meet up with us there and fish tacos are on me. No joke. Really bro. I want to treat you to broiled cod.

Surf etiquette has gone out the window. I point the finger at all the friggen surf camps and schools. They may pass on the "stoke" (i f#*%n hate that word) but definitely not the do's and dont's. I surf with a dive knife and just stab up boards and cut leashes the good ole fashion way. Once people realize there is a sociopath in the line up thats off his meds the line up thins out pretty quick.

Surf etiquette starts with life etiquette. If you start off by failing to acknowledge someone after they say whats up to you in the parking lotis a recipe for a bad lineup experience. Yes, a childish young man did that very thing to me this morning. Maybe his monster stencil should have been a warning that he was a bag of c()ck, regardless it influenced me to want to drop in on his sorry ass every wave, but I ended up surfing a different point.

Point is, be a decent human being in and out of the water, learn what goes up the peoples ass and refrain from doing it, or else you could find yourself disgruntled and talking about how you want to kick the **** out of people on the internet

1- It's October. You've never been in out in the cold. Did you go out in the 65 degree water on a cloudy 70 degree day to prove your toughness? Your chick was probably saying "JR, you can't go in the ocean today. It's cloudy." And you were all "I'm a surfer now babe. It's what I do"
2- having a "halfway decent quiver for my skill level" is probably the kookiest thing you've said (though it would be tough to beat some of the other crap). You have a quiver of sticks, but don't know how to surf one.
3- "You lost man. I stuck with it" Though the entire Summer?!?!? Wow.
