I just surf from other surfers as far away as possible Plus who really knows how to fight? I haven't been in an actual fist fight since elementary school. I wouldn't know the feeling of throwing fists if I did get into a fight right now, it'll probably look awkward as hell if someone caught it on video
my dad told me about a time where he was at taco bell late at night (totally not a munchies run), and he started **** with this black dude who was wayy bigger than him, and my dad kicked the **** out of him apparently. so i hope that being good at fighting runs in my blood, just in case things go outta wack in the water
If you've never had to throw hands chances are you aren't going to be any good at it when it comes time, sorry man, I don't make the rules
yea it was weird, like everythings intact but it was wiggling from the gums.its all cool tho the guy was a canooshadouche
well, might as well take some jiu jitsu classes from joel tudor. i'm assuming he needs the money since hes a "working class surfer"
Most people can't fight worth a lick. There's guys think that they can. And, btw, the girls who think that they can fight always get walloped every time for running their mouths & raising hands, unless she's had real experience in fighting. Then it just takes a moment or two longer to put her down, too. Also, sorry, but a guy who is bigger & heavier & knows how to fight kicks the total crap out of the smaller man who also knows how to fight. It's just basic: the strikes are devastating when backed by weight. The smaller man gets broken down. Endurance being equal in that scenario. More important than punching is the ability to evade punches & blow off the wild roundhouse stuff thrown by clowns. When I first went in to the gym, they taught me evasion. It was weeks before I even put the headgear on. Hundreds of reps on how to slip punches, and then counter punch. There's a reason it's called the sweet science. It's combat, sure, but there's an art to it, the game within the game, that is sublime & amazing. I fought NY Golden Gloves. Trained at the old Gramercy Gym w Ray Elson. It was D'Amato's gym. Tyson trained at Gramercy w Cus. Cus was there all the time. Nobody hit the bag with a lead left hook like Tyson did. Nofreakinbody. He would lift the guy holding the bag off the ground. Unreal: we're talking lead left hook, no jab, no setup, no combo. Lead left hook. Such power & accuracy & so, so quick in those, the Catskill days. Michael Olajide also trained at Gramercy. Anyways, won a few & lost a few. Learning curve in boxing is more painful than any other sport I've done. Was ahead on points in a 1/4 match in the Bronx when a guy from the Bronx broke my nose. One of those moments when you're going, damn is that me bleeding like that...?! Ref stopped it cause of the blood shower. Oh well. That's why when I see morons like chucka-boo-boo slapping around a latex dummy, or read poseur d-canoes like michellejr talk about how tough they are with the guns or see the idiots in the surf tugging at each other & all that talk yah yah yah it's just amusing. Entering the ring creates a special bond of warriors.
Nice dude, what weight class and what was your record? Best I ever did was 1st place in Taekwondo regional full contact competition. The guy I smashed to win it all gives lessons now. I laughed when I walked in to watch my nephews testing to see him running the show. I felt like they were wasting their time lmao
You did well. Especially enjoy the irony of the guy you thrashed who ended up teaching. The old saying......then that can, do, and them that can't, teach. I was 8-2 overall in amateurs. No big deal & it gets a lot tougher as you go up the ladder. I usually fought at around 176 lbs. I'd like to be a light 190 today just for surfing.
Thanks, that was a long time ago, but something I'm proud of. The dude that I beat is a nice guy but you are right about those who end up teaching. 8-2 is solid for gold gloves, its a tough game and lots of hungry dudes who need to win to get out of the hood or whatever situation they are in. Survival for some, which makes a man dangerous.
I realized on the day before my 21st bday that I don't know how to throw a punch. haha some dude knocked me out bad cause I wouldnt give him beer to fill his cups during beer pong, while I talked **** and threw cups at him. It would be cool to know how to fight, but at the same time I never have gotten too close outside of being wasted
Knowing how is good and bad, I'm more afraid of what I might do to someone than what might happen to me. Don't wanna murk someone too bad by "accident" and then end up paying for it in the legal system.
Spot on. Always believed that people who label it a sport haven't been in the ring, because if they were they'd know it is combat & the furthest thing from a game.
