I must b getting old, because the reality of having to travel to get a spot that works on this wind angle, and then having to deal with stiff off-shores and drift, I just bagged it all together in favor of some house chores I've been putting off. Hopefully some of you guys score.
On big drifty days here in VeeBee, we'd have 2 vehicles. 1 parked at 80th, the other at 58th. Sucked if you couldn't get out tho.
darn good surf today in ocnj. bingo + bango + ojngo + boingo streets were all breaking; spreading out the crowd. 40 knot gusts left some would be riders hanging at the top....also drops kinda blinda...
it was kind of tough to surf today. I've def gotten better days. Light offshores would have been blissful.
I just have serious ear issues when this colder/wind is howling...guess I coulda wore a hood. Just something about having to fight current and spray when taking off...guess iam getting old....if only the wind wasn't blowing 40mph offshore.
Not able to go the last two days. Checked it out yesterday with BassMon and the drift was too nasty it made it too harsh to jump in. This morning the wind was too aggressive. It was around 30mph by my house, easily 40-50 down by the water. But the waves were there! Really wish it was surfable. Photo cred to BassMon.
This is an odd thread...drift was pretty rough but totally worth going out...felt like a Winter NOr'easter...except I was wearing a 3/2. Surfed the spot below and moved up to the next jetty to drift through...
Super fun yesterday and today here, better yesterday. Leaving aside the wind, rain, and 32 (!) degree windchill this morning, the water still feels great.
+1 Yes, people saying strong offshores are too much even over 18mph (lol), I guess never surf in the winter when we get the actual good hollow waves. Today was just like a winter day but the water was warmer. Definitely fun and barrels around. It stays spread out and the current keeps all the summer locals out of the water.
I would of killed for 18mph winds today. Waves were there, but the wind was redonkulous. Hell I would of killed for 30 mph winds. Gusts were up to 43 or 47 around here this am according to the weather lady
Checked a few spots in the morning it wasn't worth it. Afternoon I checked it again and watch 2 guys paddle out and get drifted down 6 blocks with in 15 minutes.
I scored south jersey. wasnt much drift where I was, wind was whipping for sure but it held those lefts up to let you get a few solid turns per wave.
