http://wpcomics.washingtonpost.com/client/wpc/pe/ In the Peanuts comics today, Snoopy gets to complaining about humans and all the trouble they cause in the world. We've all read and/or posted similar complaints about our fellow human beings, whether it concerned poor surf etiquette, lousy driving, or other forms of douchebaggery. What prompted this thread, was what happened to my younger son (he's 19) this evening at CVS where he works. A guy came in to buy a couple 12 packs of beer which he dropped several times on the the way to the register. He was obviously very drunk, with vomit on his shirt, in his beard, and wearing urine-soaked jeans. He then couldn't get his credit card to work in the reader. At first, my son asked for the drunk's ID. The guy got super irate and started ranting and swearing in very slurred speech. My son then refused to sell him the beer. In response, the drunk threw a haymaker at my son who managed to dodge it. More shouting ensued. Another customer, a big black guy, grabbed the drunk by the collar and tossed him out the door. My son came home shortly afterwards a bit shaken up over the matter. Both my boys work part time in addition to going to school, and both have experienced how rude and really nasty some customers can get. A year and a half ago my older son, now 21, was held up at gunpoint by three guys on bikes right in front of our house. I generally try not to be overly negative on this Forum. I know there are good and decent folks out there, but it only takes a few bad ones to louse things up for everyone else. Hopefully my attitude will improve tomorrow after some time in the water.
time in the water will degrade your ag. for years i drove a cab at night in ac. people would say: aren't you afraid of the scumbag/crooks etc.? i would say....well, yess...but the cops are more dangerous than they..... and the drunks more dangerous than both.
I have a buddy who moved to the OBX last century. He moved to Grandy because Snags Haid is no place to rear children. His dad is a retired Navy dentist living in an affluent part of Norfolk. He won't come to my house because I live on the edge of a black section. I told him it's safer in my hood because they go to his dads to get revenue. Norfolk is a lot safer than VB. We've torn down 90% of the ghettos.
To paraphrase Ed, since I can't recall the quote...love your friends, hate your enemies, and treat strangers with tolerant indifference.
I feel ya baddy i used to drive a summer drunk cab between long branch and sleezside. Russians pulled a knife on me and i played chicken with the accelerator and punked them out once. And the swat team in sleezside smashed a guys face against the passenger window of my car while i had the doors locked and watched all the while eating a late night cheese steak waiting for closing time. Ahhh 2 fun memories.
cause i tend to scream and run away from bad things nothing REALLY BAD happened to me for which thank goodness but if 10 bad things happened to me out there in 'anything goes land' i bet nine had drunks involved.
Some guy tried to touch my leg once and said he wanted me to dress like his girlfriend...I think his name was Wayne...
Makes me think of a night in VB.. went to get gas at one station, pumps shut off because too many people filled up and rolled. We go to another gas station, as we pull up, all the lights go out. Guy comes out and says they are shut down, they had just been held up by some guy with a gun. Third gas station was fine. We were heading to Peabody's. When we got there we parked a street or two away. As soon as we park, we are still sitting in the car and some black dude rolls right up to the car and is looking in the windows, we just started the car and found other parking. This was quite a few years ago, night turned out fine, but sketchy to start with. Dos, glad your son was okay!
I really have to wonder if we humans are a cancer on the planet, or some sort of viral organism and the genetically engineered end game is collective self destruction. I worked for a spell in public housing and I was up to my eyeballs dealing with the entitled, the uneducated, the intoxicated, etc. The first reaction is awe that people can live like that and maintain that degree of entitlement, and then comes the resentment and anger. But time chips away the anger and in the bigger picture I started to pity them. Some people are a product of a horribly unfortunate series of life events in which during every major point of their personal development they have been scarred, cheated, or failed by the people and systems responsible for making them healthy happy humans, until ultimately they only know how to repeat the process onto themselves. I have a filter or lense with which I view people with abhorrent behavior. I have more of a tolerance for those who are products of horrible environments. And I am not talking urban environments--I am, in my case, talking rural environments. For delinquent folks aged 50+, there just wasn't an infrastructure strong enough in some parts of the rural America to pick up on mental health issues or to deal with co-occurring issues or child abuse, and those people are often the ones stumbling into pharmacies and then dying under bridges in the winter. Young people though--when young people behave like arshoels I have minimal pity. Most of the time they trying to impress a girl or a crew and compensating for the fact that they still cant hold their nut. But at the end of the day we are all responsible for our actions, regardless of how conditioned to fail or succeed we might be. That drunkard that tried to hit your son---his life is probably so goddamn horrible its an ongoing retribution for every ****tay decision he continues to make--- but still, eff that guy. And the guy that pulled a gun on your other son, or anyone--- eff that guy too. We can't have people like that doing that kind of crap.
Of course all of the losers who do weird **** are 9 out of 10 times just like you said. That dude was not just drunk he was a real weirdo. I kicked him out of the cab on a backroad in wall after picking him up from the the Piranha Pub in lake como which after that on the cb i referred to as Lake homo.
Tell him I am sooo sorry. I don't know how I got so drunk...must been the red bull and vodkas. But, the other guys at the party would've beat my azz if I didn't return with more beer.
Grandy is only the OBX to people who live in grandy. or Shligo. Or Coinjock lol Hags nead is a great place to raise kids isn't it? got to be one of the quieter parts of "town" ... correct me if I'm wrong... I've lived in the city of VB my whole life, in townhomes in the bad end, and the suburbs in the good end. So I've had my home invaded, been jumped and robbed, both in the car and on foot, I've seen the cops look the other way, I've seen people look the other way. It's these situations, where people that could do something, COULD say something, or diffuse the whole situation, and they just turn the cheek. pretty muffed up. but hey it's a cold world out there. weather man said the ocean temps will be 50's soon. and there's your proof.
He moved to KDH behind the Food Lion. Then moved to Grandy. My OBX boy had the misfortune to have me contribute to his gene pool and be stuck in one place longer than 3 years.
