Tax time is coming around once again and I know you dudes want a break from your bull * * * * jobs ( because I do). Let's go on an expedition to find the perfect break; pristine and untouched by any kook or longboarder. So remote that the locals don't even know what a surfboard is. Imagine having a sick, pumping, hollow tube all to yourself! Sounds like paradise doesn't it?
I don't know where that paradise is, but if your tax refund is big enough to get you there, you should probably have a talk with the payroll people at your job.
my good pal married one out of manila. she gave him a daughter, ran his business, and sold everything when he died young (not by her hand).
Peru is a personal bucket list destination, but there is a certain amount of inherent danger (as with many Central and South American countries). The Shining Path is still pretty active down there, and there is an above-normal amount of violence including robbery and rape. I've traveled extensively throughout Baja and Mainland Mex, but in Peru, I would probably stick to the "name" spots, or hook up with a paid local guide who knows the routine. The way things work there, he's probably paying off "mordidas" before you even get off the plane. Oh, and did I mention that the women are easy? Just kidding.
There's a few dudes on here who have surfed Peru. Far as anyone knows, nobody did a Deliverance on their buttockals. Likely headed to the the land o' lefts in April or May. If I go, I'll let ya know what it was.
Peru is a great place! It's not that bad... Been there twice and one time traveled fairly extensily- went to Chicama... Talk about lefts... The trip was one of the best- I actually thought baja was more dangerous... But this is all like ten years ago. When I went to Peru we hired a local guy- not even a surfer- just some dude with an 80s caravan. He drove. We did run into our fair share of traffics stops on the way by greedy police- but jurco our guide wouldn't let them bribe us- he would get out of the car and get into heated arguments with the police- we didn't understand what they where saying... But he just get back in and says we are ok to go lol. One time the police made up a story that someone reported a 80s caravan was stolen ect ect a few words form jurco and we where on our way! One thing we didn't do- travel by night outside of Lima. Apparently that's like a certain death for guys with surfboards strapped on the roof. Many great memories- would do it again in a heartbeat.
LOL, good point Yank....guess I should have qualified that statement by advising against traveling with "significant others". Actually had that *almost* happen with a girl on our travels to Sinaloa some time ago. Let us know how it goes in El Peru...pix or it didn't happen.
Hey Yankee if you go- let me know if you have any questions. Remember - to hit Chicama, it's 2 days there and the swell has got to be pumping or it will be flat. I think if it's 15ft everywhere else- the 3 to 4 at chicama. I think we went there when it was 20 everywhere else- about 5/6 there
Appreciate it. Yah, have heard that about Chicama, and that's the only thing making me think this one through just a bit more than most surf treks. Don't want to pull the trigger & end up staring at dust & flatness for a week. Would be a helluva bar tab.
I was there in August, Sendero Luminoso is done man, you've got nothing to worry about there. There's an interesting exhibit with a photographic history of the conflict at one of the museums in Lima (can't recall which one, had Brutalist architecture). The last decade of our country has wreaked havoc across the world in the name of the war on terror.... Peruvians were fighting terrorists for DECADES but you didn't see that on the TV, did ya? Anyway ... there were times that I got the sketch vibe, but hey, you ain't in Kansas anymore. Speak Spanish, don't do dumb sh*t, and if you go to the hospitable, be VERY wary of injections.
Have you been? Do tell? I have raged in Halifax and sampled the womenfolk and cuisine, but did not surf. That was 12 years ago. Took the ferry from ME and drove the coast, which was an epic in itself. Drove back and sampled Moncton, which at the time was known as the easiest town to get laid in in North America due to a grossly disproportionate female:male ratio. Truths behind the myths.
Interested to hear as well what LB has to say. Surprised no one here has reported taking the ferry from ME to NS that opened up again back in May. Cool tread and topic. FLY A BANNER FOR SURF ADVENTURES
