I dig Patagonia gear for its durability but I found their stock board dimensions suck for fat boys like me. I was checking them years back in California. I might be 185 but at 5'10...I don't want to ride a 6'5'' SB or a 6'0'' fishey shape... heck if it's got to be 4 ft before I'll feel like my 6'0 SB can do on the wave what I want. For me small waves call for small boards (5'5''-5'9'') to fit in small pockets. For grins and giggles I was talking to the Patty guy about a custom that messed with the width and thickness the way I wanted. He seemed to think it would negatively compromise the performance aspects of the board. Made me wonder who these stock dimensions where made for at 185? Honestly unless you are a newb to short boards what's the point of a riding a 6'0'' fish?

Oddly enough, Patasuffix goes out of there way to market towards a certain body type. But they are the Abercrombie of outdoor gear. If you're short and fat, you're not fitting into their clothing. They are sized that way. A friend of a friend said the Tahoe Patagonia store clerk outright said that they're clothes "aren't for fatties". Not that you're fat at 185/5'10". I am short and stout, and I can't fit into half of their clothes---its usually either a dress on me or its a front hugger.

Which, defacto, is a great way to Abercrombie your staff. You've gotta wear it at work I think, so if you cant wear it you cant work there.

haha. Yeah that's essentially what the Patty dude was telling me about FCD shapes by his facial expressions when I was talking about tweaking the dems on the board.

Most technical outdoor clothing companies use a more fitted cut based on the fact most people searching for it are in shape. We carry patagonia in 2xl at my store, and we fit some beasts into it. I like to believe a company loses some cred in the industry when the move away from tech and go into the big and tall world. That being said shapers in their realm could be more open minded. Thats like getting snarky with a climber that has a size 48 foot and your telling him he only gets size 46 feet cause thats the norm. Hardgoods are much different than soft goods

that may just be the store clerk...companies that have a "hipster" rep tend to find themselves w/ ****ty sales staff. i find it REALLY hard to believe that fletch wouldn't be stoked on tweaking dims for a customer. he's a great shaper & has been at it for decades; he really knows what he's doing.
my dad had one of the first patagonia boards back in the late 90s/early 00s when it was still under the point blanks label. their logo was an anvil w/ wings...pretty much says all you need to know about the board. he regrets selling it to this day.

very very true. And my god does that suck. Its an awesome experience walking into speciality shops where sales staff think they are way better than everyone.

I have an original retro x which is from 92 and its one of the toughest, finest garments I've ever owned. I also currently have a beard but its a regular beard not one with curls and such.

Patagonia stuff is expensive but is of the highest quality and their iron clad guarantee has set the standard for the industry.

gold. Solid gold. You need to wear a synchilla fleece under your patagonia R4 wetsuit to even stand a chance.

    YC is an original badass

hopefully the well healed full price purchasers do what they are told and they use their purchases for along time, rather than buying the latest arc teryx jacket next year.

My wife and i were joking about how we were one of the few tromping around the daks this weekend not in a nano-puff. i am hoping to get one on a friend's pro-deal soon

they may not size for fatties (which is fine since my tax dollars are already covering those unhealthy b@stards) but more annoying to me is that they dont do tall. their pants end up being capris on me.

so if I get a board from a Jerz shaper, to get it working better do i need to bench more, trade my car for a monte carlo and wear gold chains?
