Grommet is that a serious question? I've posted here tons of times about ME. It's clearer than the rest of NE, especially on the right day, but it ain't exactly St. Thomas.
Best answer I've heard is that there's so much involved in a good wave breaking that includes the bathymetry from hundreds of yards offshore, refraction etc, all working together that putting some stuff in the water and trying to trick the wave into being a wave at the last second just doesn't work.
^^^^This.^^^^ For further proof, research "Chevron Reef". Another good example: Grays Harbor, Washington. One jetty produces good surf, the other produces mostly junk and a horde of monstrous sea lions.
Yeah, it would have been to the left of the rip you took out (as you were paddling). If you went straight, you were most likely surfing "poop rock" for lack of a better term. Usually if the concrete spot is any good, it's really the only thing working. On bigger days when the surrounding spots are working, it's more of just an obstacle on your paddle in, as the huge sets will reform on the inside there and created a rather dangerous little wave. On a chest to head high day with the right swell, it's literally an automatic, very short barrel. Just an in and out with a nice shoulder to get a big turn in, then it hits the channel that you took out and dies completely. It can be a rather zooming right sometimes too..... I used to swim a lot in that cove in the summer, so on a rather flat day, with a little tide, its cool to go investigate the reefs. Interesting what you will find sometimes.
Yes, but some slight modifications of structures that already exist can be effective. I can imagine a few ways to modify those little stub rock jetties in OC MD. They already naturally collect sand and produce little bars, but with a little more juice, they could offer some higher quality.
Still talking about copying that DV video. It's been years you've been saying that. Does it even exist? I wish someone could back your stories up. Then, I would be so kind to stick my foot in my mouth. Wait, are you rat boy or connor coffin?
Haha. welcome back toolbag. Yeah, I really don't have video of other people getting demolished. I mean, that is quite a tall tale. And I will be sure to send you the first copy of this particular video... In exchange, you must sent me some form of evidence that you "surf pipe" that you "get shacked in jersey" cause from where I stand, all you got is stories home boy. But for real, I will certainly post that video right here for all you swellers to see. You are not the only uneducated one that is convinced SoCal doesn't get 30 feet. It's a common problem amongst most people from New Jersey....
Maybe, just maybe I will even shoot a copy of the DV footage from my phone, just for you to see.... Will you buy me dinner then?
Ok. I'll be waiting. It's just hard to tell on here who is and internet surfer. A lot of people have stories. You seem to have the most stories. So it's hard to believe all of them sometimes or think you are exaggerating them. Honestly, if you have that footage you are talking about, I would definitely watch it. It sounds like some good stuff.
I promise you sir, in the very near future, I will get you a copy to watch. If you can stand my narration, it is certainly a must watch.... And I have said this before, but if you guys get all aroused by the mostly-lame stories that I tell, you gotta get out more. Cause if I say it happened, it did. And it's not like I am here saying that I was out getting shacked all day in 30 foot surf. If you read the beginning, I clearly stated how I exited the water, because things were getting too big and out of control. I removed myself from impending doom and then was lucky enough to catch the carnage on video. I was CERTAINLY very proud of my decision after that. Cause I felt a little bad about b***ing out, but sh** got serious out there and it went from challenging, to potentially deadly, and that is where I draw the line. And that was in my "hellman" days where I really disregarded my own safety in most situations..... Anyway, I will show ya for sure. I also have a video of what looks like a dolphin jumping over my head. Its just the angle, it was really probably 10 feet behind me, but the video doesn't lie. But until I show you, I know, I know... It didn't happen.
well; perhaps. but i'm unaware of someone approaching the idea SCIENTIFICALLY. that is; establish a location then proceed to do experiments. if the first one flops, try the mirror opposite, then tweak both or neither and away we go. this WILL BE DONE due to exponential growth of our sport and the possible failure of wave pools.
Exactly... Creating an artificial reef is a great idea. The problem is, you can't just go out dumping stuff in the ocean. That's not exactly legal. Its something that is being played with in some places, but you would have to get the legal rights to do this, and that means actually having science/research/money/political swing to back you up.
why don't you be the first? can't think of a better location than central delaware coast....this tiny state has TONS of room for this.
Anyone building any such contraption should be required by law to remove it if it doesn't produce waves, or if it becomes a marine hazard or a hazard to marine life due to shifting and breaking up. We can't even get the idiots to pick up their campaign signs after they run. A per diem fine would fix things.
Let me know. I"m sure I'll be waiting for years. I definitely believe all your stories. You don't sound like the typical BSer at all.
Good morning sunshine. Like I said, once I show you your little video, you gonna buy me dinner? Or maybe show me the ropes at Pipe? Your choice bro. I'll take either.
I'll be waiting. Let me know when you have it. I'll check in every few months. It's tough with a job. I can't post 5,000 times. I'll see if I can get some pipe footage of other people surfing too to match your footage. I never said I surf pipe all the time. I just have surfed it. I go every winter but don't always surf pipe especially with the crowds and the size during some winter swells. There are plently other spots on the island. I actually prefer Kauai which gets really good winter swell and less crowded. I'm just asking for the footage because you seem to be the one with all these stories that you want to make sure that everyone knows about. I'm fine with my stories being held in my memory and shared by friends. I don't need the internet world to know about them. I just have come across people with stories who like to tell everyone and then they are exposed with bull**** all over them. If you fell the need to validate stories to people on an internet forum or through all social media, you most likely are full of ****.
