couple nuggets for ya from one who has taken 13 surf trips there.

don't go without talking to me.
they LOVE to tell gringos that chicama isn't even on their list of top ten waves...
kidrocks' post i'm sure means well but was kinda off the mark...
you don't have to worry about sendero or any dat stuff...why?
the actual surf zone is apolitical (they don't gaf about it)....
beware april may as they the most crowded months...
august the best but a little cold...but not cold (about60deg)...for east coasters.

as far as the surf; well, they got it!
i like to ask guys; well, what do you like?
hi-perf? big wave? giant lefts? hyper-juicy rights? consistency? surf-alone spots? its all there and more.
if you're a regular foot don't miss the hI-PERF RIGHT CALLED CABALLEROS.....its the ugliest wave that
    you will ever adore!

also, beware gringo-itis.....you'll probably get it; get real sick; get better and NEVER get it again.
best avoid fruits/veggies....i found that meat/fish/eggs potatos and bread best...what makes you sick
is called a "gringo microbe"; (THEY don't get it).

Gringo-itus is minor revenge for nearly wiping out two continents with colonial euro-immuno-death (small pox, etc.) I'll serve my bid on the toilet.

BT is it sharky? My fear of desolate coastline is that I will be a 14 hour hospital drive from the closest underfunded clinic and subsequently bad doctor.

Nova Scotia does get surf, but not as consistent as the Pacific Coast of Canada. Easiest place to start is Lawrencetown Beach, about 50 minutes drive from Halifax. From there go north and explore. Access is very difficult due to terrain, but the place is riddled with firing, empty points when there's a solid swell running.

nah, not sharky. actually, compared to other places, QUITE non sharky.

you are correct to be concerned about sub-standard medicinal practices; yet they survive...

the correct topic is: HOW MUCH DO YOU LIKE TO SURF? cause you'll do more here than anywhere else....

    Interesting, and appreciated.

3/2 w booties or heavier depending on time of year?

Was it the waves or why'd you go x13, if I may ask, when there are good locations much closer...

    you may ask anything.
    your 3/2 will be fine; only on the COLDEST days of august would you need a 4/3....you don't need boots;
the regulars never do unless extenutating circumstances.

why 13x? cause i'm a hardcore surfer who found out that here is a place where i can cut loose however
i wish; such as...hmmmmm....today i feel like BIG WAVES so off i went and surf it somewhere between
10 and 20 foot. or today i really want my go-to board to highly function...so its off to caballeros (which spawned
sofias' talent).....or go to the 3 section left that everybody adores and has wet dreams about...not chicama...
or pull into lurin, find somebody to guard the car and surf 8ft EMPTY EMPTY EMPTY beachbreak til i can
no longer.....or the less describable ones...like 'la isla'....if you're a regular foot this one is gonna make
your jaw drop and your fins hum....and theres' so much more....thats why.

    this.
i have been through this countless times.
    its all true.
the louder the local screams at the cops the better chance you have.
the gringo just sits in the car going "wtf - i have NEVER seen anything like this"..

later trips when i had more wisdom i would arm myself in advance with cigs/cigars/bottles etc....
the gringo always pays but the local does not.
no harm ever came of it that i can remember...
i mean, other than the standard "gringo-wallet come here."

I can't wait for Kelly slaters wave park to open.

Would love to go to Chile for some waves.

Side note: Looks like the dogs are well fed and treated nicely.

Is Peru mostly reef/rock bottom? What is the sketchiness level from 1-10?

    chile is holding.
    thousands of empty spots.
none of them as cold as new jersey.
    tons of swell.

    sketchiness level - assuming worldwide scale - say; america is a 2 and syria a 10, i'd call it a 4.

I like my chances. Chile sounds awesome too though. I just need to get out of SFL for a minute.
