I did? Damn. I need a copy of your calendar, it goes by way slower than mine. Where'd you buy it?

I made a post maybe a month or so ago saying this is how it would go. "Bro it's October, wait till nov" "kook, it's only nov, wait till dec" "bro it's dec, barely cold, go snowboard" "you still with us bro? Feb is cold, go home" etc etc etc. Lol, you crack me up man. Tell you what, snowboard UT in dead Feb and we'll talk cold. So far, it's been chilly, maybe, on a bad day. I venture to say you don't know cold until you're over tree line doing car speeds wearing a neoprene mask because your face would need an ER otherwise. Cold. Dude you live in jersey. Tell me about those epic city closing 6" dustings you get 4 times a year. Brrrr. Get out the parka. Go eat a canoli Anthony.

Cold is relative to where you live. 50 degrees in Florida in the winter is considered dam cold, don't blame ya for complaining about the chill...but if I could have that here in the winter, I would take it.

I hardly got to where my 3/2 this fall...maybe 3 weeks. The good- water stayed warmer longer. Surfed in my long sleeve short john up until almost the end of October. That was sweet. The bad- dam water got cold quick. A couple days ago, I think I read 48 inlet water temp with cold air temps to boot. Wearing a dam 4/3 now and the way weather looks in the future, the 5 mills will be coming out.

So the water is like crystal clear there?? How cold was it compared to a jersey mid winter swell??

The coldest day we had up there was 33F for a high temp. Our winters are statistically colder than theirs. People up there say it's not the cold, but the wind that gets you, something we learned right away upon landing with sustained winds around 30mph, and gusting higher than that out of the NE.

Late August till early October is their peak watertemp. I was toasty warm in a 5/4/3 with a thermal on. Could have gotten by with a 4/3 with the weather we had last Saturday. Their water temps generally average from low 40s to low 50s depending on the month, whereas the watertemp here can drop into the 30sF.

Obviously they are an island, whereas when cold air pours down from Canada there's no significant body of water to warm it up before arriving here.

    Dude,
I was put in the ocean and was in waves at 3 months of age.
I have bodyboarded since age 4
However, I started surfing about 2 years ago.

And after all this, (although I try to help people who don't know much about the sport) I consider myself unintelligent about surfing, a newbie, and a kook. And I probably will consider this for many, many more years to come. Everyone thinks/thought this way.... Except you.

You started surfing barely 4 months ago. Think about that. You're going up against people who have been surfing for 40+++ years.

    April, but who's counting.

As for being totally green, **** man I'll say it from the rooftops. I wouldn't have words about it if I wasn't torn into from the getgo here for being new and asking stupid questions. Sort of set the tone for my stay. Got sick of the defensive, went on the offensive, Murphys law manifested, and here we stand.

I'll admit it though, still greener than a leprechauns hat.

    From Savannah this weekend:

    4ft swell (thereabouts)
    Water Temp: mid 60s
Air Temp: 48, with strong N-NE winds
    Wind chill: low 30s

Used 4/3 suit, damned near unbearable Saturday, a hood was required with the NE blowing so hard. Changing out of the suit was particularly brisk. Sunday was somewhat better as temps rose into the 50s, although the water temp dropped a couple degrees between Sat & Sun. It was interesting, the sand was much warmer than the water...it actually felt great on bare feet when walking back to the car. But ducking under waves was continually teeth-gritting, water temps are pretty chilly for this time of year.

Typically, water temps in the mid-high 40s are common during the winter here. Ice cream headaches are the norm on some days when a wave washes down your neck. We don't get a lot of great winter surf here like out on the west coast, some Low Pressure storms through Thanksgiving, and some strong NE storms into December, but not much during the first months of the new year.

I know...nothing like the northern temps. But for those who think it never gets cold down here, sorry...WRONG. We're there already.

north carolina stays pretty toasty year round even when the air gets a little chilly. Never rocked a hood all 5 years i lived there unless i it was a frigid OBX day, and even then you can ussually get by with a 4/3 or 3/2.
