Thats the gayest thing I think I've ever seen in skateboarding... I still like this:
Those tarantula trucks are the kookiest, unsexiest, unrippable things I've ever seen. Clemmy - you started dis tread. It is long. It is dope. Keep it pure.
Here's the latest Carver video I've seen released by the company. Shows the CX.4 on trad decks with dudes shredding in work boots. This vid shows a lot more of what these trucks can do in the pool and on the street with more of what you cats are used to. Slashdog, I think you were waiting to see something like this. Let me know what you think.
This board with these wheels. Carves and pops. The nose/tail slide like crazy. I would snap a pic but its in my car, which is parked at the bar where I was driven home from last night. Wheels (68) are fast and soft, but small enough to pop like normal street wheels. Its nice being able to cruise over heaving sidewalk cracks. http://welcomeskateboards.bigcartel.com/product/gateway-on-banshee-90 http://www.tactics.com/powell-peralta/bomber-skateboard-wheels/black-85a
Hey all. After looking up some different things about carvers Ive been wondering if it would be possible to put Carver CX trucks on a regular skate deck. I've already got wheels and riser pads, so hopefully no wheel bite. The deck is 8" wide, and that's my biggest concern. Do you guys think it'd be wide enough and do you think there would be wheelbite? Just thinking that I don't have to go and buy a whole setup when I can just buy the trucks...
I couldn't see the vid on your post, my bad. Probably because I'm on an iPad. I Haven't been reading he while thing I just didn't want to start a new thread. My fault, sorry. Does the vid have a name?
Try reading the tread on a desktop. I think devices don't always show the vids embedded. I posted the vid yesterday so it's a few posts up. Dis tread is full of commentary and accounts of Carver trucks on regular decks and you'll see that I've got a high interest in that too. Basically looking to get the full benefit of Carver trucks and also preserving street and park capabilities.
Update, Carver sent the deck as promised, when promised. They actually sent me the newer model of the Knox. Over an hour of charging on it, and no signs of twist, so as of now it's looking like the first was some kind of one off issue. Couldn't be happier with their Customer Service, and their product. If your on the fence about buying one, I highly recommend pulling the trigger, and I was definitely skeptical at first. I'm actually grabbing another pair of Carver trucks to convert my longboard as well. Just can't see myself wanting to ride it with regular trucks now. For the 200lb plus crowd, consider grabbing one of their riser lift kits. I was getting wheelbite on the old and the new deck, and it put me on the ground. The C7 takes and odd shaped extended riser, and they offer pretty reasonably priced kits. I just cut my own from a plastic cutting board, but it would have been less of a headache if I could have just bought them quickly, but I didn't want to wait a week for shipping. The Knox comes with three (1/4" each I think) and I'm running the equivalent of 5 which took care of the bite. CX trucks take standard sized risers.
Glad you're still stoked bro. Thanks for the update. Carver done you good on the restock. Love that you call it charging lol 5 risers?! Damn bro. I use either 1 or none and don't get any wheel bite anymore. I agree though, when it does happen, you're getting jettisoned off the board. Wouldn't want that happening on a hill or in a bowl.
At the supplied 3 I was fine for general pumping/carving, but anytime I laid into a hard carve while grabbing the rail, it would catch. I probably could have tightened the trucks a bit and gotten rid of it, but I like the way they feel where they are. Running with the extra risers feels fine. I thought it might feel weird, but it doesn't at all. From what I've read the CX trucks should require a lot less, and that's probably what I'm buying next. I also plan to run them with smaller 65mm wheels which should help.
My C7 is loose as hell and I still don't even feel a rub from the wheels on the deck. You're right that the CX is less of a wheel bite concern. I'd stay away from grabbing rail on carves, it's just not necessary. I've found that grabbing and pulling the deck up will tend to cause wheel bite when it wouldn't otherwise be an issue. I don't find grabbing rail is any more often needed on a Carver than a surfboard. The only time I do it on the Carver is on Bert slides on a ledge. You'll find that you can keep the board way more level than with a rail grab and still get your hard turn in. You probably just need to sit lower and drop your hips and still get enough heel side pressure. I don't even grab rail on a surfboard other than on gnarly backside drops.
I am trying to sneak this post in at work, and dont have time to read through all 33 pages, so apolgies for the bad etiquette has anyone tried to order parts off carvers website? I just need a replacement back truck as i have been riding the same one for over 2 years and it is basically thrashed. I went to order a new c2 back truck for $28 beans, and they are trying to charge me $62 bucks for shipping, bringing my total to $98.... this is complete bull****, and before i raise hell...has anyone gotten around this?
So I've been enjoying sessions on the Fraktal 32" for the last 7-8 months while getting lots of time on the popsicle stick with CX4 trucks too. The wheelbase on the traditional deck was just too damn narrow for my Carver/surf stance which isn't ridiculously wide but definitely not a pool stance. Have wanted to work in more basic street technique to my surfskating for a while now. A drawback has been the setup. The plan was to find a new skate deck to throw the CX4s on but it had to have: not much more than 31" length, double kick, width on the 9"+ side, concave deck with some form of gas pedals, not too much weight. Yeah, I know much of that contradicts itself. However, I'm in Santa Cruz with the wahine last weekend and we head down to PP after seeing no swell at the Lane and there's this old cat selling a bunch of spring suites, longboards and other assorted skate paraphernalia on the roadside. I stop and dig his wares and see an interesting Black Label Duane Peters deck in good repair for only 15 bones. Tells the old chap that I'll be back in a minute with my skate to see if the wheelbase is any wider on his and take it if so. Line it up after retrieving my ride from the whip and sure as schitt it's about a half inch wider. The deck was way concave too from rail to rail which was another thing I've been looking for as mentioned. The length was only about a half inch longer (so 31.5 or so) and the weight was still light. Have the boys over at SC skate shop trow the CX4s on my new-old deck and they couldn't believe I got it for that cheap, commenting how it's a classic with lots of newer school features still. I trow in a new set of Bones Reds and shoots buoys, the thing is Ed Zachary what I was looking for. That extra half inch of wheelbase made all the difference and now I'm not Nollie'ing on some pumps. Can really surf the CX4 similarly as the C7, whereas before I was far more subtle with input to the board. Meanwhile, wahine has been axin for her own Carver for a while now after she's been ripping on the Fraktal and the 34" Green Room since April or so. Girl was kind of a natural out of the gate. MUCH better than me right away. Anywayz, she's had her eye on the 29" Swallow online the last few weeks and the SC shop had one on the rack there that we saw while they was trowin my trucks on the new-old deck. Shorty is in a sun dress and still complies with my suggestion to try it out around the store. It was love at first rip for wahine so I told her that it was my gift to her and we had the boys ring it up. She was beaming nonstop from that moment on. We had them switch on the 65mm 81a Roundhouses instead of the 70mm 78a that usually come with it. Figure the lower height is good for her and plus I want her to get progressive and into slides soon. Had the boys take the risers all off too since I don't ride with any and wheel bite never seems to be an issue even though on my Bert slides I really go rail to rail hard at the park. Wahine doesn't stop smiling all day and was so damn stoked about her new skate. We ripped all over town after I paddled out for an hour at the Lane and she thanked me no less than 30x throughout the day and night. Seems like it was a bigger gift for me than her since I got her so stoked and smiling. Lucky braddah I am these days to have her around and by my side. Really planning on pushing it with the new CX4 setup on the Black Label deck. Bout damn time I got a complete together where I can start hitting the pool with some street style to complement the surfskate foundation I've managed to compose the last two years. Anyone else been hitting the pave or what?
The new/old Black Label deck is unreal. That extra half inch on wheelbase is mint and just what El Shred ordered. I can literally pump the CX4 with PP Bombers on it as hard as if I had soft, grippy square-lipped 70mm 78a wheels. This is just what I was hoping existed and I'm very down to start integrating street tech into my surf skating. Wahine simply loves the 29" Carver Swallow. Girl is gonna put me to shame on the wave and pave both some point soon. What a fast learner.
