When I lived in SC I had a dog that would eat almost anything. Once my friend brought cheese grits and put some in my dogs dish. The dog ran up ready to eat gave it a sniff looked at us like wtf is that and walked away without touching it.
Anybody (particularly people in South Carolina) ever eat rice grits? http://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-...ern-comfort-food-from-flaws-180949277/?no-ist I'm kind of intrigued by them, but I think importing them to the north might not be cost effective.
You can order them on Anson Mills website 12oz for about 6 bucks or you can order buy the pound. I have to say I don't recall ever eating rice grits. Anson Mills products are excellent as a whole. A lot of Chas. restaurants use their rice, grits, ect. Their grits are soooo much better than the instant stuff many people are familiar with.
Man, that's expensive for 12 oz. of rice, but maybe with the holidays coming up I can justify it as a special occasion thing. Maybe get some yellow grits too, since they are almost impossible to find up here.
I use mainly Charleston Plantation stone ground grits because they are widely available here. They have white or yellow for 2Lbs for $9.00. They have a website you can order from. You'd be suprised by how much one bag makes.
Usually get them from Old Mill of Guilford when I'm visiting family down that way. Turns out my kid loves grits, but he's only getting Quaker, cause there's no way I'm spending that kind of money on his breakfast every day.
