LB is gathering dust with the fishes handling most of the smaller conditions

8'0" long(er)board Ashton modern cheater noserider
    6'4" Sharpeye
    6'2" Lost classic RNF
    6'1" Lost Shark
6'0" Roberts White Diamond-new used board purchase this board is getting a lot of use
5'10" David Nuuhiwa 1980 twin fin bought in Cardiff during a 2 year stint there-still rips

SUP is not a wise consideration with a partially torn rotator cuff

I've got a 6'8" spyder pickle that is good in all conditions. I go with my 6'2" rubble by verner on doh or bigger days in pr its got a lot more rocker for late take offs.

Damn Yankee ,I'm jealous of the board count! Nothing against it but I've only riden a LB a handful of times and NEVER been on a SUP. I dream of the day I can add a few boards to my quiver of two, if that even qualifies as a quiver. I ride a 6'2' quad in all conditions here.

Dang, yankee! That's a herd o' boards! For us on a budget... Got a 7'2" egg for 1st board after my 30 yr layoff a few yrs back. It floats my 135 lbs of scrawn like a log. I guess if you can catch a wave 5 secs before it breaks, plus do some walkin, it's a LB. So my egg kinda qualifies. For my 2nd, and only other board, got a 6'6" swallow tail, I guess you'd call it. Ride that when it gets to waist high and +. Not really a potato chip, but it was a great buy, and it's plenty fast for my geriatric butt. Here in G-town, can only ride a skateboard a handful of times each year. Can't justify the $$$. I'd need a 2nd cottage for all the boards some of y'all got.

I ride bodyboard, shortboard, and longboard. I enjoy all three for the different types of waves we have here in Delmarva. I've tried SUP a few times, and wasn't really into it... I'm riding 9'0 pin tail performance longboard, which may not be the best board for the small days, but its really fun regardless.

I get paddleboards from work to go f around in narrow river and drink beers. tried surfing it once, not much fun, but kudos to the dudes that can rip around on the short sups.

I have a fun shape Ill get off the rack if I havent surfed in a while and Im sick of swimming, diving, etc.

I have 3 shortys one of which I actually ride, the others got a blown out fin and I let my landlords son take care of the other.

Boards in order of being ridden
    5'8" WW grouch
    6'1 dhd d2 concave
    8' heritage girl flowers
    6'0 watercooled cheapo fishy

ESA considers anything 9' and over regulation for longboard division comps. I don't know aboot other far away governing/sanctioning Surf Mafias.

im a short boarder at heart , but the water draws me in no matter what the conditions are . 9'10 bushman nose rider . 10'5 ashton pin tail lb , 6'4 lib tech bowl , 5'10 lib vert . 6'2 proton step up . 5'11 , proton and rookie . 2 old mach 7 .7's bodyboards , few skims , 5'8 liquid force surfboard with strap inserts . 2 twin tip kite boards , 3 slingshot rpm kites 8meter , 9meter, 12 meter, . And 2 old slingshot rev kites , jet ski , kayaks , but have not bought a sup yet . tried it a few times but it seems like a lot of work out of the water . Dragging it to the beach that is .

I borrowed a 9' Yater Spoon one day this summer on a knee high day and had a blast. Learning to hang ten and cross stepping felt pretty rad. So after 35 years of shortboarding I went and bought a 9'4" Bing Levater. I SUP on flat water only in the river and treks along the coast. Don't really dig surfin on one though.

I paddled around in the back bays this summer a few times on a SUP. I liked it something different to do when it's flat and hot out. I've been on the fence on buying a SUP or paddle board for distance paddling. Some good alternative for days where there's no waves and you rather do something than sitting at home or cooking on the beach. Hand planes are pretty fun too and it a good way to keep cool on a hot day when it's flat too.

LB when it's tiny and SB when it's bigger than tiny. Although, I recently had a good run of LB days and I'm not sure I've had that much fun in a lonnnggg time.

I have a 9' Angulo Surfa surf performance SUP, which keeps me in the water usually 3 to 4 time / week. I took a beating on a SUP my first few months, but once I "got it" it has been a blast. I've use it to chase ankle biters to dropping in on overhead bombs. I tend to stay out of the more dicey, hollow, and crowded SB waves, but have charged a few . Fortunately we have miles of shoreline to spread out.

    Nice tread.
As you might guess from my aviator, I'm a LB guy. I was a longboard guy before the "longboard renaissance". (Joel Tudor was probably 4 when I started riding longboards.) Grew up surfing in Avalon and Stone Harbor, NJ where the beach isn't very steep, so a LB is a key element to the quiver. Here's my main squeeze and another mini-tanker that I usually toss to beginners.

The main squeeze is a 10'0" Country Surfboards (Haliewa, HI) I had custom made in 1995. I don't know the measurements. The plan shape is modeled after a Peck Penetrator. You can't really see it, but there are 3 stringers, fanned out from the tail, like the old Surfboards Hawaii "Model A". It also has a step deck like the model A, and I added some concave under the nose. This design allows the nose to flex and flatten for nose rides. I rarely use the 2+1 fins, usually opting for a single Harbour squirrel tail or Velzy B2 fin. It has a Hawaiian rocker, so it is not a wave hog, but let me tell you, this board can handle practically anything the Right Coast can throw. I've surfed it in everything from knee high crap to well overhead barrels. I ride it 99% of the time, but that's just cuz I've always liked longboarding.

A family I knew in the late 70s/early 80s told me they had a "big old board" in their garage, and I could have it if I came and picked it up. I was there in 10 minutes, and became the owner of a vintage 60s 10'0" Weber Performer. That thing weighed a ton, but I surfed it until about 1987, when I had the 7'6" Ashton mini-tanker made. In 1995, i had the Country "Kamikaze" 10'0" made, and have ridden it almost exclusively since. I love the glide, walking the nose, big drop knee cutbacks, and still throw in an occasional headstand for fun.

I've never tried a SUP, but don't think I will, as I don't want to carry one.

One time I went to meet this guy from CL selling what he said was a long board. Said he got it in HI when he was a Marine there. I went to get it and it was an 8'8" CI gun. I mean full on 2nd reef pipe pintail thruster, glassed at moonlight glassing. Picture Slaters mid 90's white with the black stipes by the stirnger CI's but in gun form. Said how much you want for it. He said $50. Bought it and sold it to my buddy in Wilmington for the same. He's ridden it once when it was big during Earl but from time to time we like to get a good buzz and walk out to the South End in July with it and stare out like we're just waiting for our set man!

CaptJAQ, is that Ashton in the picture from 1987? If you don't mind, what's the fin setup? What's the bottom like?

Thruster, glassed on fins. Concave in the nose, flat center, V through the tail.

I hear ya. I was trying to convey that on small waves that move the surfers who weigh 160 lbs, I'm carrying another 50 + 20 thus I end up on a bigger board. I didn't really convey that, and anyways your point is well taken.
I don't have dedicated winter boards either - - just go with what feels right given circumstance.

Had the opp to surf a 10' Weber, not my board, that thing was literally 2' wide & 3 1/2" thick, it was a blast actually.
