I heard OB is a heck of a place to surf when the swell is fo-realz. Be ready for a shifty lineup and lots of paddling. If I was Mr. Spicoli, I would find a nice point/reef/cove or something that was a little mellower and more fun...Even if it's crowded or loc'ed-out. F it, man, as long as you're respectful and sharing, you won't get too vibed-out. I mean, shoot, all we surf are beach breaks on the East Coast, find something exotic to surf.
Glad OB has this reputation as it keeps the crowd down. I find the break very similar to OBX so I feel right at home. The "chron" spot north of the bridge is my 2nd favorite spot and I've only seen serious localism once in the 10+ times I've been there so I surf there from time to time with little worry. B*****s is much more localized but oddly enough they mostly suck at surfing and that break feels more like a moving sidewalk than a wave. I mostly avoid it like the plague. There's another beach break just south of there that no one surfs. Really fun at the 4-6ft size as it's a fast wave with the occasional (closeout) barrel. I haven't charged OB over 10ft yet but I find the paddle out pretty standard in comparison to most east coast breaks. Sometimes I'm exhausted by the time I get out but it's well worth it. Don't knock it until you try it...
Report is looking still big on Sunday, but winds are getting much more reasonable. Still planning on B*l*n*s unless anyone has better suggestions. Looking for a great session and not one where I'm compromising safety, as I have a commitment for work there later that afternoon.
I told ya to pm me...did you read my post about getting to bobo's?!?! It's well over your 30-45min mark.
It's an air raid siren they sound if one of the lifeguards spot a great white. It's a popular summer time beach. So there's lifeguards in the summer. Although they test fire it at noon and 5pm if I remember correctly. When you hear it go off it's always sends a chill down your spine, and you look at your watch or ask what time it is.
I stayed in OCNJ for Sandy.....the FD let out a horn sound I never heard, I texted my buddy on the FD and said 'whats that siren' he said and I quote "thats the 'your fukd' siren" the monthly tsunami tests get me once in a while too those civil emergency sirens are eerie, guss they are meant to be
Dude, I'm pretty sure that particular spot won't work according to the current forecasts. Leetymike808 sounds like he's def gots the 411, give the boy a PM.
