I don't feel bad about them getting paid to surf, I feel bad that they have no option, other then the scraps the men don't want. Maybe a separate waiting period is an option, even though it would cost more money. I'm just putting myself in their shoes.

I feel like the working poor are worthless fools that haven't figured out how to get rich.

It is really lame. Maybe they were trying to emulate the NFL, but couldn't call it the NSL because surfing is an international sport, so it's the WSL. I think they should abort this silliness and remain the ASP.

I'm all for keeping it the ASP - way cooler

I'm dying to see how they're going to brand the WSL and what the new logo is going to look like. Something tells me it could look like some strange globe from Captain Planet with WSL plastered over it...gosh I sure hope not.

If you carefully re-read, starting at post #19 of this thread, you may better grasp why I said, what I said, about the working poor. Good luck!

Correct... you and Mitchell hit it on the head. In order for it to work well (and last), a longer wait period would be necessary. OR ... an open geography. For example, "The NYNJ 100 mile Pro," where the contest would be at the spot with the best swell over that stretch of coastline.

I would be very excited to see it in Oregon. It's cold enough, and more sharky than my neck of the woods. Imagine Gabey-poo donning 5 mils of rubber only to get CHOMPED by a whitey!

That's a good concept Slashdog. I'm sure they have all the hardware and stands prefabbed in trailers anyway that can simply be driven down the road. You sure you're not a surf comp appraiser?

WCT at the point in OR would be unreal. Nonstop drainers. Not sure cats would need more than a 4/3, then again lots of those guys may have never had to wear a suite before and would be sensitized to cold.

it's a possibility, but the cold & wind will always be The Great Equalizer...a lot of people think they want to surf in the winter, but when they finally experience the reality of it, change their minds in a hurry & suddenly have all manner of things to do when the surf comes up.

They should hold an event at Cyclops. That would separate the men from the boys...and the women with facial hair from the regular women.

I think every spot should have the same or similar wildcard setup that Hawaii has/used to have. If your getting paid millions of dollars to surf then you should have no problem going up against the local Joe working class town hero/legend anywhere across the globe. The wildcards should just have a ? next to their name and just show up as the heat starts so no one has a clue who it is.

and the locals should decide who it will be, not the sponsors.

You could call it the NYNJ Thousand Mile Pro if you want, you know it's still going to be held in Belmar.
