Thought this was gonna be a wahine pic tread a la metard. Anyone got good tail pix to post? Blondes or brunettes are both fine.
That's a interesting idea, concept seems solid to me. Would like to here more about how it actually works. Those tail blocks looked like they came out pretty easy.
rattle seems like it might be an issue? this would be great for determining what you wanna ride, if a shape were avail in three tails and a shop or shaper offering you to take something out for a spin. never rode a rounded pin tail. never could pull the trigger. my comfort zone has gotten narrower and narrower and the only new things I try now are beers. if someone put one in front of me and said try it, I would.
if your struggling to understand what I meant, its probably because I wasn't very clear. I meant along the lines of large quivers containing similar boards. I understand that a tail shape doesn't help a 5'10 in doh conditions as much as some more length. that being said, I am very interested in this idea for the reason U2b just mentioned. Cant tell you how many times I only bring one board and should have had something a bit different
It seems to complicated with pieces and parts for me to loose. Just like removable fins. Screws and mcjiggers to get rusted and salt crusted together. And too part specific? Do they only work on this dudes shapes? I think I'm going to stick to 3 shapes ready to ride in the old van at all times next to a wetsuit quiver. Something thick, short, flat and fat for crap surf and soft faces, a taller, slightly skinnier sister with a little more bow in her for bowl time and a log for those days that it would fit well on, i.e. glassy, gutless days. Those 3 are replaced when needed but the categories must be covered. Changing tails and fin positions won't make my fish a log. Or the fish an inch more narrow and change bottom contours. My surf time is so precious that wasted time changing tails and fins cannot be tolerated. My prediction is that this is a footnote in surf gear history. I really want him to make a legrope that doesn't tie my feet together when I pop up, now that I would buy.
Beerndwata, yay! Garbonzobean, did you say mcjiggers? Trying new things "cannot be tolerated", that's pretty firm. The concept is interesting, I think the tail would rattle about as much as your fins when you don't tighten the screws. I can't afford to experiment that much with boards right now though. I mean, no, umm, I have millions of dollars, and NJ is the surfing Capitol of the world, so I won't bother relocating ;-)
The whole concept seems kind of half baked and gimmicky to me. The differences between a good squash, swallow, and rounded pin boards arent just the rear six inches! Theres a reason why my only rounded pin is a good 10 inches longer than my squash tail, and narrower, and with a different fin set up, it has to do with the waves they are intended for. Also the first time you damage the rear corner of this board (at the connection point) seems like it could create a pretty serious repair problem. But hey, I'm sure the technology comes with "qualified repair locations" that will fix your one board quiver in a month for $150.
That's pretty sweet. I'm not hating it either. Would love to get a good look at how seamless the connection is.
