How do you help those who refuse to be helped? Most people on welfare want to change their circumstances but there are some who simply want their check. How do you deal with them? Also, clearly define 'fair share'?

that burden is on you. I cant because there is no definitive definition.

are they not making it because if decisions they made? Having a very large family is certainly expensive. My brother's girlfriend works at wal-mart and she seems to do ok but she is also very frugal and watches her spending.

you want the root of welfare? well here it is from the source:

Lyndon Baines Johnson. YOU support that.

PS--Its unfair for ANYBODY to take advantage of anything the is forceably taken from on group to be given to another.

do you know the federal wildlife scientists stance on feeding animals? They say don't do it as it creates dependency and they lose the skills they need to survive. Ironic eh?

    Pump/Chich...et al...

The problem is you're both right. There are decent hard working people who are struggling simply due to circumstance. Got laid off b\c they shipped their jobs to China, got crushed by medical bills, etc. Can be very hard to climb out of those holes. And there are plenty that will never stop sucking at the guvmint's teat. And they're making sure their progeny will continue to suck, and that will never stop short of the milk running dry and they die off. There are no easy answers. I sure don't know the answer.

But I do know this...as long as the DemoRepublicratican party is in power it will not get better, it will only get worse.

But I'm prob not saying anything you both don't know already, so I'll just step out now. I'm going to focus on things I can change, so I'm going to go make a sacrifice to ye gods that Pipe will start firing today and Medina will get A Crosby Cocktail and get puddin' popped right out of the contest.

    Carry on gentlemen...

" I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion about the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it."
    Benjamin Franklin

This works: My wife got laid off. First time in 30 years of employment. Took advantage of some training programs, actually now welds better than me. Took some work keys tests and is now employed as a teacher's assistant in an EC class. BUT>>>She didn't really start looking for work until the unemployment ran out.
    Guilty.

"However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

I have to speak in vague terms here but when recently sent into the system due to stupid people saying stupid things against me without researching the outcome. I was sent to state funded programs that made me show up in the middle of the day every day 3 days a week. I informed them I was self made and self supporting and I needed them to work with me on scheduling so I could keep my work. They said that was impossible. When I asked how I was to explain this to my boss and customers they said maybe you should quit and go on welfare, thats what all of our other clients do. I kindly told them, thanks but I don't do welfare. I'm 6 weeks in and i've had to leave steady work for peace meal work but I refuse their handouts. They told me if I miss an appointment I have to make it up with 2 additional appointments. They have cancelled on me with no repercussions to them twice already. Eight weeks left, I will find my way out. The bottom line is the state pays these scum to keep me there every visit is $300 to them. The more screwed up they can make me the longer i'm stuck there making them money. The system is broken for the hard working. It only works for itself and for those who are too dumb to realize that free stuff isn't always good.
