Has anyone made their own fins using G10 fiberglass? Any Wisdom you could share?

Backstory: I really like the FCS K2.1 Fins (AKA Future WCT) and I've been surfing them for a long while. Recently I fined up to a larger fin and like the bigger fin but I still prefer the pivot and tight turning the K2.1's allow- they are a really upright fin. So I think I might just buy a sheet of fiberglass and try to make a set that is about 10% larger since I'm about 25lbs heavier then KS.

PS: I figure if I have the exact specs as slades, I'll rip as hard ;-)

i've tried it and don't think its worth the time and resources unless you think you plan to make multiple sets and continue to perfect the art. Flat spots...nicks...etc...always seem to be the norm when I tried. Additionally, the additional cost of equipment...making your own fin panel table, etc.--not sure where you're soutcing your G10 sheets or the thickness of the sheets, etc.--not sure it's worth.

If you're still committed to trying...I say go for it...but first read the linked thread and the other one embedded within it: http://www.swaylocks.com/forums/how-do-you-make-your-own-fins

Good luck and post up pics if you go for it.

Use sheets of plywood. The grains makes it easier to foil them. Much cheaper and faster and you glass it once.

I actually tried it with some old soft wood I found in my garage....idk if its pine or what but I used extra ding repair kit resin and made them as FCS's. No pics tho.. and I'm too lazy to take any.
